    Srinagar

Defying the threat of militants, around 9,000 Kashmiri boys today thronged the Army recruitment rally being held at headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir light infantry centre at Rangreth.

Terming the response as"unprecedented", an Army spokesman said"the rally is a step by the Army to ameliorate the unemployed youth of the valley. The unprecedented turnout for recruitment implies that the Indian Army has carved a niche for itself in the mind of Kashmiris. The youth has realized the importance of the Army and they want to join it.

" Militants had threatened severe action against those joining the recruitment rallies being held by security forces in the valley. The spokesman said the General Officer Commanding of the 15th corps Lt Gen Bikram Singh has given very clear instructions that youth of this region must get all possible help and assistance for selection into security forces.

The open recruitment rally, is being held for soldier general duty, soldier clerk, store keeper, soldier technical and soldier nursing assistant.

We don't count people as Muslims and Hindus here. They are just that. Aspirants to Indian army.

I wish I could have joined the army. Best wishes to them.

However, this is an annual exercise conducted there and generally has a very good response. for the religious break-up, Reuters did one, there were 8000 Muslims in one single drive held at Anantnag.

    Let's use some reasoning here.

9000 reported by the media => ~8000 actually reported by the recruiters.
    no, wait, let's start again.

9000 reported by Indian media => ~6000 actually reported by the recruiters
~6000 reported by recruiters => actually ~4000 showed up
~4000 showed up => ~2000 were actually interested
~2000 were actually interested => ~1500 were "boys" of Indian settlers in Kashmir
~500 "Kashmiri boys" actually interested => ~400 "Kashmiri boys" from Hindu-dominant areas

Congratulations Indian Army on winning the hearts and minds of 100 "Muslim Kashmiri boys" from app. 90% of the Kashmiri population.

And even if we take the number to be true (I know, crazy, right?).

9000 from the entire province? after all that effort? What a shame! the Army must be really unpopular if this is "unprecedented". I know three Kashmiri "boys" from university who would rather cut their own throats than join the Indian Army, and I know none that are actually happy with Indian occupation, I guess in Indian media terms this is "100% success rate". Ofcourse, these are boys the Indians like to call "terrorists".

The fact that they didn't mention how many were from Hindu majority areas like Jammu, Ladakh, Leh etc. is a win for the rest of the 90% of Kashmir. When the enemy mistakes peace for weakness, what are they to do but find victories in reports like these?

Still, good work Indian Army recruiters. Pat yourselves on the back some more.

Nope. Terrorists are those who would cut others throat for no reason. Cutting their own throat is only a civil offense in India (Rs 500 fine) - It may sent one to be roasted in Hell if successfully executed, though (in some religions).

Dont try to pull a fast one buddy.

    This year 9000. I said:
Translated in plainer language and smaller sentences:

    This is held every year.
    It has a good response.
One year Reuters a news agency did the break-up.
They found out there were 8000 Muslims.
Indian Army does not reveal figures by religion.

    Here is the link:

REUTERS has seven alphabets. RECRUITERS has Ten.

Now who is doing the hanky panky again? Naughty you...

Please put your reasoning to a better use by understanding what's written and not manipulation.

J&K has a population of 77 lakh. Approximately 5 lakh would be in the required age range of 20-25 (if one assumes that the population is evenly distributed between ages of 0-77 ). Out of this 5 lakh 9,000 turned up for recruitment - which is approximately 1 in 50.

Consider that Indian Armed forces are a million strong for a population of a billion (1 in 1000 ). Assuming steady state - 1 person retires for everyone leaving, it would imply that for every person born in a year, 1 in 1000 gets recruited. I have no clue what the selectivity rate for Army is - but my guess is that it would be somewhere like 1 in 10. ( This would mean that all over India there are 10 million people who at some point turned up for Army recruitment.)

If the turnout all over India was similar to Kashmir, Indian Army would have a selectivity rate of 20 to 1.

    Good show Kashmir!!!

On the contrary it is a very good drive, please note that these kind of drives doesnt happen once in a year; they happen at frequent intervals. Requirement drives in some of the states atleast happens 4 times a year. And coupled with the fact that Army recruitment in Kashmir itself hasnt been succesful in the past makes this a really good turnout. do the math.

Last one happened in Jan in Kashmir...
Overwhelming response to Army recruitment rally in Jammu and Kashmir

the above statement is akin to saying i know three baluchi guys who loathes pakistan to Hell and would slash their own throats before doing anything for pakistan....but then such kind of idiotic statements doesnt prove a point, does it ? so lets leave at that, shall we ?

Ahhh sigh ....everything has to be about religion , is it ? Sorry recruitment is for India...religion doesnt matter ...were u expecting a breakdown of the people from area's that they were coming ? ....What would be the point of giving a breakdown of people and their consituencies ....If the news report contained breakdown about people and the area's they represent, next thing you would have said "there might be a odd hindu in those consituency...no Muslims might be present in recruitment"...It really doesnt matter what the news is, the point is you would believe what you want to believe. Nobody can change that ...

Enemy ?? who are the enemies....Kashmiri's ? They are indian's...enemies are the non state sponsored activists from Neighboring countries , these are the people that indian's are worried about.

What people choose to believe is their own Business...but do open your eyes once a while lest it may scare you....

    Damn right....
