Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, which has been blacklisted by the US, has managed to start making devices without American parts, replacing them with components sourced elsewhere.

According to analysis by UBS and Japanese technology firm Fomalhaut Techno Solutions, seen by the Wall Street Journal, Huawei’s latest phones had no US parts.

“When Huawei came out with this high-end phone – and this is its flagship – with no US content, that made a pretty big statement,” Susquehanna International Group semiconductor analyst Christopher Rolland told the Journal.

International Business Strategies’ Handel Jones said that “independence of US supply indicates that the strategies of the US in trying to isolate Huawei are not working.”

Huawei and 68 of its affiliates were placed on the US Entity List in May after being accused by the Trump administration of spying for China. Both Beijing and Huawei have denied all the accusations. Washington’s ban meant the company would have to seek permission to purchase any American components it needed to manufacture its products.

Later, the US Commerce Department eased some of the restrictions until August, allowing Huawei to maintain and update existing networks and handsets. It has since been granted two more extensions.

According to the UBS-Fomalhaut report, since May Huawei had added a number of non-US suppliers and used components from companies based in other countries.

The Fomalhaut analysis showed that the company had cut down its reliance on American suppliers in smartphones launched after May, including the Y9 Prime and Mate devices. The report said that the Mate devices contained chips made by Dutch NXP Semiconductors as replacements for those made by US firm Cirrus Logic.

The move away from American parts extends beyond cell phone production, according to the report.

“All of our 5G is now America-free,” Huawei cybersecurity official John Suffolk told the WSJ. “We would like to continue using American components. It’s good for American industry. It’s good for Huawei. That has been taken out of our hands.”

of course not. google has no rights to stop others from using Android. Google used Linux under Apache license.
Anyone can use Android for free.

Ok. Seems like everybody is genious here. Anyway, my claim is that China is not "America-free" as the title claims. Still has to use Android OS which is American.

Android is Google's product and it encourages companies to use it which has 2 versions; Open-source and Licensed. Phone manufacturers get license from the Google itself. Huawei may use Android OS but still Google have power to block Google services for them. And an Android phone without for example. "Google Play Store" or "Youtube" or "Google Maps" is nothing but garbage. Play Store is what makes an Android smartphone what it's. Another issue is Google's Android security updates. Out of updated phones will be vulnerable against any kind of threats. It's really silly at it's best that a Usa company makes a product and will not have power on it. American mentality is based on sanctions. Nothing is free there. You can use it free as long as they want you to use it according to their rules. Otherwise they turn your phones into trash. Sad but true my smart friends...

    1. There are 1.4 billions Chinese use Android without Google, they have no problem with it.
    2. There are many Android versions which have their own app stores, have you heard Aptoide?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Android_app_stores
    https://fossbytes.com/10-google-play-store-alternatives/
There are many apps which can has similar functionalities like google apps, including search engine, maps, youtube.

Also google can stop people from installing google apps, but google can NOT stop people from using google internet service in internet explore. and you knew how easy it is to have an HTML 5 app which connect google service, such as youtube, maps and so on.

It's people who has mentality like you, encouraged US hegemony, which is exaggerated.

There are market controlled, or hugely influenced by US, there are free market which US can do little about it. China own OS/customized OS can take that piece of pie and live.

The world need an alternative, competition is good for everyone for long run.

Where does it say China is America free? Is there even such a thing? Is America China free? Meaningful discussions require certain intelligence to join in the conversations. Turks do not belong in that category obviously.
