Also how has the army failed to curb militancy? The point of these operations is not just to stop attacks on army or SF personnel. It was to stop attacks om civillians. How many civillians have been martryed in the past week due to terrorist attacks compared to a week in 2009?

Militancy has been pushed to the borders. The army is supposed to take the hits and give out the hits to protect the civillians. Thats war.

It has now only chose to target military targets and instalments. If TTP wants, it can do the same wave of terror like it used to do before. But the new leadership fortunately have taken a right step, it makes their popularity increase among masses and gives them much needed legitimacy. We have seen them being committed to that promise as civilian casualty is minimum. They are pretty much following the model of Afghan Taliban now.

If they start doing civilian casualties then that would increase political capital among public for army to do a big operation. They don't want that happening either.

Today 4 civilians died in Quetta blast. Their ability to do attacks in major urban centres has diminished due previous military operations.

US Nato, Saudi, Israel all fought on foreign soil against locals of another country.
This is Pakistani Land with Pakistan army doing operation against insurgents in its own legal territory. What is there to compare?.
Comparison should be like Sri Lankan army against Tamils or Chinese PLA in Xinjiang or Indian Army in Indian Punjab or Turkish army Against Kurdish Militants. And all of them more or less defeated the insurgencies or neutralized them.
Dynamics , Intensity , Objectives , Strategy and progresd of this war is a different subject though. But Gorilla wars are won and Insurgencies are neutralized around the world successfully.
