38 Indian High Commission officials to be sent back today

100 Pakistani diplomats, including family members, to return today

ISLAMABAD: Thirty-eight of the total 76 Indian High Commission officials in Islamabad will return to New Delhi on Tuesday (today) - a move Pakistan has made in a tit-for-tat response to the neighbouring country's decision to slash by half the strength of the Pakistan's diplomatic mission in Delhi.

The Indian High Commission officials, including six diplomats, will leave Pakistan through the Wagah border.
Further, according to sources, 100 Pakistani diplomats, including their family members, in New Dehli will return to the country on Tuesday.

Last week, India decided to reduce the strength of Pakistani staff at the diplomatic mission in New Delhi by 50%, hurling absurd allegations of espionage and terrorism at Pakistan’s diplomatic mission.

But within hours of the Indian move, Pakistan categorically rejected and strongly condemned the baseless allegations made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs as a pretext to seek a 50% reduction in the staff strength of the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi.

The Foreign Office summoned India’s chargé d’affaires in Islamabad and conveyed Pakistan’s decision, asking New Delhi to also reduce the diplomatic strength by 50%.

According to the sources, the Pakistani staff at the diplomatic mission in New Delhi are facing continuous harassment and last week two diplomats were tortured by Indian agencies.

No just this, the sources said, the family members of diplomats are also being harassed as they are being followed.
This is the first time since 2001 that the two countries are reducing the strength of their diplomatic missions by half. At that time, India had taken the decision against the backdrop of an attack on its parliament, triggering a nine-month-long military standoff.

The two countries had pulled back from the brink after intervention by the US and other Western countries.
Observers believe the latest Indian move suggests that tensions may further escalate between the two countries at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is under immense pressure over his government’s capitulation before China.

It is possible that India may ratchet up tensions with Pakistan in order to divert attention from its border tussle with China.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, it is stated that Pakistan completely dismissed allegations of any violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations by the officials of the High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi and reiterated that they always functioned within the parameters of international law and diplomatic norms.
“Pakistan also rejects the insinuations of intimidation of Indian High Commission officials in Islamabad.

The Indian government’s smear campaign against Pakistan cannot obfuscate the illegal activities in which the Indian High Commission officials were found involved. The MEA’s statement is another effort to distort facts and deny the culpability of these Indian High Commission officials in criminal offences,” the official handout read.

Not good enough, Pak should have gone the extra mile and should have sent back at least 20% more.

38 staff members of Indian High Commission including six diplomats and their families on Tuesday left for India via Wagah-Attari Border.

Earlier Pakistan asked India to reduce strength of its High Commission in Islamabad by 50 percent as a counter measure to Indian move of cutting strength of Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi.

According to sources, 100 Pakistani nationals including families of diplomatic staff will return to Pakistan via Wagah Border.

Amid the ongoing diplomatic tussle with Pakistan the Indian government asked Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi to cut staff by 50 percent.

Tensions between the two countries began back on May 31, when two officials of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi were ordered to leave the country within 24 hours after being declared "persona non grata".

The Foreign Office strongly condemned this move, calling it "undesirable". Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui said that it was part of India s anti-Pakistan propaganda.

Pakistan Foreign Office later summoned Indian Chargé d'affaires to register a protest over New Delhi’s decision.

A week later, India once again violated diplomatic etiquette and International Law with its harassment of Pakistani diplomats continuing in New Delhi. The Indian authorities kept blocking the car of the Pakistani Chief of Staff and the acting High Commissioner. Officials of Indian secret services tried to stop the car of Syed Haider Shah in an attempt to harass the Pakistani High Commissioner.

The incident took place as senior diplomats were heading home from the office. Syed Haider Shah’s car was stopped and Indian officials misbehaved with the Pakistani Diplomat.

Pakistan has strongly protested against the incident, saying the Indian move is a clear violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

After yesterday's Indian sponsored terror attack on PSX, we have to respond by closing down Indian Embassy and ransack it. I'm sure evidence of terror sponsoring of bla and ttp will be found.
