LOS ANGELES — U.S. Customs and Border Protection at the Long Beach Seaport seized 14,806 pairs of counterfeit Nike shoes found hidden inside two containers in a shipment labeled “napkins” arriving from China.

“Intellectual property theft is a crime that leads to lost revenue for American industry, a loss of American jobs, and often poses a threat to public health and safety,” said Carlos C. Martel, CBP Director of Field Operations in Los Angeles.

AFT Center import specialists and the trademark owner confirmed that the shoes were in violation of Nike’s Air Jordan 1 Off-White, Air Jordan 12, Air Jordan 1 (blue, black, red, white), Air Jordan 11, Air Max ’97 protected designs and trademarks.

These shoes are in big demand by collectors and sport shoes enthusiasts, selling for $1,500 dollars and up to $2,000 online.

“Counterfeit brand-name shoes is a multi-million dollar criminal industry. The trafficking of these items is extremely lucrative and becomes more profitable in markets involving successful and popular products.” said LaFonda Sutton-Burke, CBP Port Director of the LA/Long Beach Seaport. “CBP commits substantial resources to detect, intercept and seize illicit goods at our nation’s largest seaport.”

U.S. Customs says that trade in illegitimate goods is usually associated with smuggling and other criminal activities and often funds other criminal enterprises.

Counterfeit goods are common in every developing country, it doesnt mean they take other countries interests before their own

such acts not occurs unless someone from within u.s public supports such smuggling,I think rise in taxes on chinese goods have forced u.s public and businessmen to smuggle such goods as they cannot get their alternatives from nonchinese suppliers. It seems trump is promoting smuggling in u.s by tradewar

No, smuggling of fake Nike sneakers has been going on for decades. Almost every year a big shipment is found. With easy online sites like Amazon people simply start their own business selling counterfeit merchandise at slightly below the legitimate ones hoping they won’t get caught.

This is one of the reasons I hate the "made in china" crap. China is the heaven for the manufacturing of counterfeit products in the world and I wouldn't be surprised if this is done in china with the full support of the Chinese government to destroy the "image" of the good brands that are known for quality for decades.

Question: which genius came up with the price tag of $2.2 Million when these are counterfeit shoes? These counterfeit shoes are worth no more than $30,000, but obviously the news had to be made sensational by increasing the price tag to 2.2 Million.

Australian police seize billions of dollars worth of illicit drug across the country

How does Australia get this number when drugs are also illegal and have no specific selling price??
