Russia offered Su-27 and Mig-29 to PAF in the 90s

oh thats new to me! thanks for the usefull post! back in 90's if we acquired su-27 i think it wasn't a bad deal for PAF maybe russian were willing to give also financial help to fulfill the contract. obviously there was also indian protests, cost of jets, their high maintainance cost, training and diffrent issues but i still think that it wouldn't be a bad step for Pakistan instead of relying on US. This deal maybe bring Pakistan a little bit close to Russia and then US will for sure act diffrently. It was still cold war era and the world scenartio could be some how diffrent if Pakistan give a hand to Russians instead of US. JUST MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS, I KNOW IT'S NOT QUITE SIMPLE LIKE THIS!

eh we gotta stop looking at the past what matters is what and where we are now...is russia offering Su-30 ? more important question can we buy them ? no

I looked up "Gilbert Sedbon," (one of the authors) and the news seems legitimate!

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia changed much of it's foreign policy!

They demolished ties with North Korea (an old time friend) and became more in tune with Western powers.

So it makes sense that they would want to improve their relationship with Pakistan as well.

Even now, Pakistan's and Russia's foreign relations are improving.

The fact is true, an Independent defence contractor mention this in Karachi.

The articulation seems very poor and moreover it doesn't appear to be a newspaper scan.
The official History of the Pakistan Air Force mentions this as well. Both Russian and Ukrainian Su-27 Flankers were offered and evaluated in the past. Other sources close to the PAF have also confirmed this. The deals fell through for various reasons, geo-politics, internal politics, finance and, not the least, capability.

There are a lot of Flanker lovers in Pakistan. If it were up to them, the J-11 would be in Pakistan before the first FC-20 flies. I, personally, have no opinions. The J-11 should be acquired if required, otherwise, our Fourth Generation needs are being catered for. Time to look forward.

Hi, Pakistan was also offered Mig-29s from Ukraine in the late 90s, but the lack of availability of spares from Ukraine, killed the deal. Thanks!

If a Su 30 MKI is something you leave as a left over, then sir, Pakistan really does not know what to eat and what not...

you shouldn't be saying this atleast not until you decide your MRCA because if SU30 is so good then why even consider anything else right(i know the answer to this) but i am trying to apply the indian logic to this because from their point of view pakistan going for JF17s is because pakistan never had a choice or china not buying the jf somehow makes it crappy! :agree:

The pic is definitely not a scan. No chance at all. Its made on a computer. The correspondents do exist but they never wrote anything of this sort. The news is fake. Its a photoshop job, and a clever one for sure.
