How is this relevant at all?

Dunno who Mr. A-Musing Hacq knows, if at all.
Yes indeed; there may be some substance to what you say. Even Azim Premji is a Shia and another successful billionaire. Azim's father who was a good friend of Jinnah refused to be persuaded to move to Pakistan inspite of strong persuasion. See where that took Azim Premji.

For Azin Premji and his success in IT, it probably did matter though not in general. Interesting story though. His father did turn down the offer of becoming Pakistan's first Finance Minister and the son did benefit in a way not possible in Pakistan.

Is there some evidence for this or is this mere hearsay ?

Is there some evidence for this or is this mere hearsay ?

It would be hearsay but hearsay that has been held for some 60 years( I don't know what would constitute evidence in such matters) and repeated by almost every major media organisation when doing a story on Premji.

“The company was established by Mohamed Hasham Premji in 1945. He was a leading rice merchant and commission agent in Bombay. When Mohammed Ali Jinnah set up the planning committee of the Muslim League (on the lines of the national planning committee of the Indian National Congress) in September 1944, he invited Hasham Premji to be a part of it. But Premji did not want to join the League formally for ‘personal and business reasons’. He was then assured by Jinnah that he could serve without publicly signing the Muslim League pledge¹.

“Jinnah reportedly sought out Premji once again when he was forming the first cabinet in Pakistan to serve as his fnnance minister. But Premji rejected the offer and decided to stay on in India and nurture his oil business².”
When Azim Premji’s father said no, and no again | churumuri
. Premji has donated more than $2 billion to the Azim Premji Foundation that focuses on primary education. The foundation envisions starting two schools in each of India’s 640 districts and has already set up a university to train teachers. Premji considers this initiative a way to give something back to the country that has given him everything. When Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founding father of Pakistan, insisted that M. H. Hasham Premji, Azim’s father, become Pakistan‘s first finance minister, the elder Premji refused the offer calling India his home. Indians cannot be more thankful for that refusal, as they would have had to part with perhaps one of India’s brightest minds, Azim Premji.

So its hearsay !

Repetition & Duration doesn't mean a thing if there is no proof of anykind of such an offer being made to begin with !

Surely such a thing should've popped up in one of his leading biographies or one could find a quote attributed to him or some other Muslim Leaguer that had been given to the media that implies that the Senior Premji is being made this offer, as our politicians do all the time ?

Heck I've read about 7-8 Biographies of Jinnah Sahib & I can't recall ever reading a single mention of the Senior Premji whose supposed to be his friend & apparently a very well respected & sought after personality by him !

Well, no one has rebutted it either. Surely you are not arguing that every single aspect turns up in biographies. The fact that it isn't mentioned there is not evidence that it is not true If you know of Azim Premji, you would certainly know that he is a very private person & seeks no publicity. There is no reason to simply make up this claim, not for him or his family. . Find someone rebutting it & maybe we will have something to discuss. Until then, best to let it go. Doesn't change anything in the real world, does it?

Asking someone to become the first Finance Minister of Pakistan is something that crops up in biographies !

A statement is cogent because it is cogent not because no one bothered to rebut it ! A rebuttal was perhaps not given for a myriad reasons not the least of which would be that no one in Pakistan that I've ever heard or read ever heard of an elusive Premji Senior who was offered the post of being Pakistan's First Finance Minister by no-less than the Founder of Pakistan whereas everyone has heard about Malik Ghulam Muhammad's stint at the economic & finance advisor to Liaquat Ali Khan when the latter was the Finance Minister of India & the former had an illustrious career first with Mahindra & Mahindra & later the Nizam of Hyderabad whilst finally being made the First Foreign Minister of Pakistan when Liaquat Ali Khan, whom he had already worked with before as part of the Finance Ministry of India, became the First Prime Minister of Pakistan !

At any rate whom do you suppose should rebut a claim that pops up in tabloids & articles after Premji went big in the '90s & there is no mention of it before that ? If there is please do share the link.

No it doesn't change anything but why mention something that has no evidence, not even circumstantial evidence or hasn't even found itself into credible literature pre the '90s ?

Pakistanis dont annouce their worth or they will be kidnapped the next day, Mian Mansha's worth is well over 3.8 billion USD

Any of the umpteen biographers should be able to do that. Premji becoming big had nothing to do with Jinnah or any offer, it is not like he gets to be put on a higher pedestal because of any such link. If Jinnah's grandson & great grand children barely mention his name in India, why should Azim Premji, especially after he became famous? As for there not being any mention before the 90's, why should there be? In what context would it be relevant? It's relevance is directly connected with Azim Premji's rise though even this story is hardly common knowledge in India. There is nothing to gain & a lot to lose for Azim Premji if it is proved that he was fabricating stories. In any case, some of India and the World's biggest news organisations have all put out the story without qualifications.

I guess we will just go with what either of us choose to believe. In India, that would be with Mr.Premji's side of the story (I can't remember him ever mentioning it but he certainly would have shot it down if he didn't agree). You are free to believe what you will.

Biographers don't rebut hearsay coming out of tabloids, articles & people's personal blogs otherwise there is a lot that could be said because people have always talked & people will always talk - Fortunately for us Biographies don't work like that ! Had Nehru or any of the other Founding Fathers of India or people of note in Pre-Partition had made an allegation that would be different but the allegation attributed to a Businessman amongst tonnes of other Businessmen that conveniently comes decades after is hardly a thing of note !

Still not found any historian who out-rightly rejects the claim. That's where it will stand till someone does.

Have you found a Historian that actually mentions it ?

Besides to disprove a negative is a logical fallacy hence why proof is required when someone asserts something !

Suhail Rizvi is a 47-year-old self-made rich man who left India and came to the United States when he was only 5. He is essentially a product of America, not of India.

This post is a tribute to America as a land of opportunities for people who would have a very hard time succeeding at home unless they inherited something like a running business and some wealth as Indian Muslim Azim Premji did....Premji is an exception because as a rule an average Indian Muslim is worse off than a Dalit, according to Indian govt's own data.
