28,483 Persons Declared as Illegal Foreigners in Assam

In the period from January 1, 2001 to December 31, 2011, a total of 28,483 personshave been declared as illegal foreigners from Bangladesh through the judicial process
, of which 288 have been deported. Of the declared foreigners, 16,019 are absconding, while 353 have registered themselves with the FRRO office. Revealing this in the Assembly in reply to a starred question from Phani Bhushan Choudhury (AGP), Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain said that the three detention camps in the State at present had 94 foreigners, the break-up being 59 at Goalpara, 32 at Kokrajhar, and 3 at Silchar.

I read this news today in local daily ,,.. unfortunately 16000 of them are absconding....lately Assam govt. have become a lit bit active while dealing with Illegal migrants..ever since they formed their "that" political party(or atleast backed by them) AUDF (which was height of stupidity), these people no more serves as a votebank for Kangress and I was hoping that something like this would happen .. great job Tarun Gogoi

It was about time Gogoi actually did something about Assam's Bangla problem rather than sit back and give the typical lip services. Glad to see Assam (and recently, Nagaland) ramping up initiatives to encircle illegal radical land-grabbers and throwing them out.

Like what? We're fencing the borders but the land is huge and it will take time. BSF was doing an excellent job shooting the scum but the human rights terrorists and the secularist UPA scum ordered them to stop ..
