Baltic Shipbuilding Plant “Yantar” (United Shipbuilding Corporation, Kaliningrad) has launched the Admiral Makarov, third ship of Project 11356 being built for RF Navy, today, September 2, 2015, says the shipyard’s press center.
The ship has been launched according to the schedule approved by the customer.
The ceremony was attended by the representatives of RF Navy command, regional authorities and other officials.
According to Igor Ponomarev, Director General of Yantar, the shipyard will deliver two first ships of this series and large landing ship Ivan Gren by the end of the current year.
The Admiral Makarov was laid down on February 29, 2012. The delivery of the ship is scheduled for 2016.
This year will see the delivery of the Admiral Grigorovich and the Admiral Essen frigates. The lead ship is completing the manufacturer’s sea trials. The first serial ship is undergoing the mooring trials.
Under two contracts signed with the Russian Ministry of Defense, Yantar Shipyard is to build a series of six frigates of Project 11356 developed by the Northern Design Bureau. The shipyard has laid keels of five frigates. The six one, the Admiral Kornilov will be laid down soon.
Baltic Shipyard “Yantar” based in Kaliningrad, Russia was founded on July 8,1945 on the basis of a Koenigsberg unit of German’s Schichau Werft. Yantar Shipyard specializes in building and repairs of warships and civil boats. Throughout the years the Shipyard has built 154 warships and more than 500 merchant vessels. The Russian Government holds majority stake in the shipbuilding firm through Western Center of Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.
United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 60 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
