corvette
firgate
destroyer
cruiser

I found the speed cruisers and destroyers are the fastest, why they are not good for effective submarine hunting! They can also bring large numbers of sonar systems and MAD systems than frigates or escort ships can carrying

During World War 2, the corvette class is the biggest the submarine killer , opposite the cruisers or destroyers easily be more attack submarines

US Navy Today absence of this class to hunt effectively submraines

Navy Russia, China, India, Europe still operate frigate class corvette to hunt submarines to be effective

In a special event, modern cruiser submarine hunting also very effective

The now no longer used Spruance class was a very good ASW platform. Quiet due to all GTu powerplant and Prairie-Masker bubble system. GTus gave great 'sprint and drift' capability. Big enough to house e.g. both an AN/SQS-53 bow mounted active sonar and an AN/SQR-19 TACTAS towed array passive sonar. Fitted with 2x triple 324mm lightweight ASW torpedoes as well as (VL) Asroc. Carrying 2 SH-60 Sea Hawk LAMPS III ASW helicopters with a 25-tube pneumatic sonobuoy launcher and a towed Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD). Other sensors on that helicopter include the APS-124 search radar, ALQ-142 ESM system and optional nose-mounted forward looking infrared (FLIR) turret. Munitions carried include the Mk 46, Mk 50, or Mk 54 torpedoes. AN/SLQ-25 Nixie Torpedo Countermeasures.

Ticonderoga class cruiser Arleigh Burke Flight IIA and onwards are similarly fitted.

Ticonderoga class has an AN/SQQ-89(V)1/3 - A(V)15 Sonar suite, consisting of:
Arleight Burker Flight IIA:
Besides these big (9-10k ton displacement) ships, smaller ships can have good ASW too.

E.g. 3,300 ton Dutch M-frigates (Doorman class)
CODOG propulsion
Sonars:
  • Thales PHS-36 Hull-mounted sonar
  • Thales Anaconda DSBV 61 VLF passive tactical towed array sonar
  • Ultra Electronics Multi-static Low Frequency Active Passive Sonar
Weapons
2 x Twin fixed 324mm torpedo tubes firing Mk.46 Torpedoes
1x Westland Super Lynx, or Eurocopter NH-90 ASW heli
