The Commando Brigade incorporates the elite Egoz, Duvdevan, Maglan, and Rimon units.

The recently established IDF Commando Brigade completed its first full combat drill, held on a hilltop in the Jordan Valley on Wednesday.

In recent days, units in the brigade practiced a number of wartime command operations in a range of simulated areas. This was conducted “under the command and management of the brigade’s command level, which began forming just before the drill,” said Brig.-Gen. Uri Gordin, commander of the 98th Division, a reserve-service paratroop division also known as the Fire Formation, to which the Command Brigade belongs.

Gordin said the drill, dubbed “Night of the Bridges,” practiced a series of “operational activities by small elite forces that achieve significant gains against the enemy.”

“The Commando Brigade is a new thing for operational forces in the IDF. It directly and clearly strengthens the operational end of the military,” he said.

The brigade’s establishment provides new tools to strike with, Gordin said, adding that “we are in the process of construction of a new capability.

“This is the first and very significant result in a learning and development process.”

In December, IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Gadi Eisenkot said Israel needs the Commando Brigade now more than ever, in light of threats from Hezbollah and Islamic State, during a ceremony marking the creation of the unit.

The Commando Brigade will incorporate the elite Egoz, Duvdevan, Maglan and Rimon units.

It will be tasked with being an accessible, independent, and flexible commando force that specializes in complex face-to-face combat, longrange raids, and lengthy covert operations in enemy territory.

The brigade was established following an order by Eisenkot to set it up under the Central Command’s 98th Division.

Eisenkot said the four units that comprise the division have an impressive record in their defense of Israel.

“One does not need a broad intelligence or strategic understanding to comprehend the sensitivity of the current period. When we look north and see the boastful remarks [by Hezbollah], the wind blowing from Lebanon, the threats by Islamic State commanders in Syria and Iraq, and the wave of escalation we have been dealing with in recent months in Judea and Samaria, as well as threats from the south, all of these require us more than ever before to have the ability that exists here in this small space, the IDF’s Command Brigade,” he said.

The commanders in the brigade will be in a high state of readiness, and prepare for the “day they receive the order to realize our goal – the defense of the State of Israel, to ensure its existence, and if we are tested, to defeat any enemy.”

The First Commando Brigade Training Exercise

This week, the Helicopter, UAV, Transport and Reconnaissance squadrons all took part in the first Brigade-Wide Exercise of the new Commando Brigade. "The commando forces are the main forces which will be flown and helicoptered in warfare"

A first in IDF history - A brigade-wide training exercise was held this week for the newly established Commando Brigade, which is only a few months old and consists of four of the IDF's spec-ops units: "Maglan" (Ibis) "Duvdevan" (Cherry) "Egoz" (Nut) and "Rimon" (Pomegranate).
IAF helicopters, UAVs and reconnaissance aircraft also took part in the comprehensive exercise. Despite the cold weather, the spec-ops unit combatants trained for some of the largest helicopter transported operations that have been seen in brigade-wide exercises in the past years.
"Because of the brigade's importance and missions, all of the squadrons were happy to take part", explained Maj. Adi, IAF representative in the "Fire" battalion, which commands the brigade.

The "Fire" battalion specializes in spec-ops assisted by helicopters, UAVs and reconnaissance aircraft.
"Because it is a newly established brigade which is only taking shape, there is much room for flexibility and creation of cooperative work - which will influence the next campaign. Exactly for this reason, it was important for the whole UAV division to take part in the exercise", shared Lt. Daniel, from a UAV Squadron. "The combatants need to be alert and to know every detail and piece of information in their area".

The Focus of the Exercise: Helicopter Division Assistance

The brigade-wide exercise confronted the brigade with its complex missions. In accordance with its missions, the IAF assisted with helicopter transported missions, evacuation of injured combatants and combat helicopter fire support.
"The commando forces are the main forces which will be flown and helicoptered in warfare", explains Maj. Hagay, Head of The Land Training Exercises Department in the Cooperation Unit. "Therefore, the focus in the exercise was on the helicopter division and specifically the transport helicopter squadrons. All of the transport helicopter squadrons took part in the exercise and practiced operative transportation of forces from helicopter pads to different points in the exercise area".

Observing from Above
The nature of the commando brigade's activity is to be able to be everywhere at all times and operate in enemy territory for long periods of time. This nature requires widespread intelligence evaluation. The IAF's Intelligence Division is required to supply the brigade with preliminary and relevant intelligence data and is also present above the forces in the field and supplies them with real-time information.
"The exercise contributes to our cooperation with the brigade and to the understanding of our relative advantage to assist the mission the best we can", explained Maj. Daniel, Deputy Commander of the "First" Squadron, which operates the "Beechcraft King Air" reconnaissance aircraft.
"The brigade executes operations which require a large amount of intelligence data, so we brief the forces ahead of time. Thereby, helping them notice threats during activity in real time".

The UAV Division is prepared for every arena and executes daily reconnaissance activity and is considered a close aide to infantry forces which escorts them from above and maintains routine communication n with them.
"We contribute to the brigade forces in intelligence and in the understanding of what is happening in the field, before they land with the assistance of transport helicopters and disperse to their designated points. We update them when the mission begins", describes Lt. Daniel. "From that moment, we are responsible for checking the area for threats which may cross paths with the force, assist forces in direction of fire and when necessary, assign additional forces for aerial assistance. For us, the main challenge is creating mutual language and it is important for us that the brigade will be aware of our abilities, so that in the next war we will know how to work together in the best way possible".

To be honest I do not consider Israeli forces of any kind a real soldiers, they are only good for the kids with the stones in their hands. The reality is that even the Arab Israel war they were backed by the US, UK and France special forces and 3 additional regiments on separate occasions. Even the US air force was directly involved in that battle. Even a Country like Iran has recently defeated their special forces fighting in Syria and Iraq along with ISIS. Go ahead guys and show this to those who are indeed fool enough to fall for this sh***.

You should study bit more about Arab Israel wars of 1948, 1967 and 1973 .........

stop eating propaganda so much.

Oh ya? well the same goes to you too, Indians too are only good for unarmed Kashmiris, so don't get over excited.

You should study bit more about Arab Israel wars of 1948, 1967 and 1973 .........

I have met one US retired soldier in Vietnam and he told me that him and his fellow soldiers saved hundreds of Israeli soldiers in 1967 and 1973 wars, he was called off from Vietnam war at that time, according to him the Israelis are the most annoying soldiers on earth to work with. And that, had those Arabs been a good fighters, Israelis had no chance to stand against them, we helped them a lot in terms of ammunition, special ops, we infect send 4 complete brigades and many fighter jests at the time of war, and our own Pilots were flying those sorties, but the Israelis had to get the credit otherwise how could they scared the shit** out of Arabs.

I will explain his story completely someday when I will finish my upcoming exams. And stop reading western propaganda, dig out a reality on your own. There are hundreds and thousands of real stories that they don't want you to know.

And if you think that this US x-soldier is a liar than why don't you go to Egypt and find someone who fought that war, ask him to tell you the real stories that what exactly had happened? they were the ones who detained many US soldiers, only they had to kept it secret due to the extreme pressure from US, that's why they were the only ones who accepted Israel as a Country at those sensitive times.

Agree on that. They have very high level of arrogance.
had those Arabs been a good fighters
They were good fighters. But their high command was idiot. Shear power is not enough to win a battle. You need intelligence, efficient planning and war tactics too.
we helped them a lot in terms of ammunition, special ops, we infect send 4 complete brigades and many fighter jests at the time of war, and our own Pilots were flying those sorties
Well known facts........................Particularly in 73 war, Israel did the come back, thanks to continuous supply of ammunition by United States..... From bullets to Tanks.

We know a lot already...............
And still we will appreciate if your share what you know...............don't forget to tag me when you share the details
