US Drone Strike Kills 4 in NW Pakistan

American drone-fired missiles slammed into a car near the Afghan border on Monday, killing four suspected Islamist militants, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

The missile strike took place in the Nargusa area of South Waziristan, which like much of the rugged border region is home to al-Qaida and Taliban fighters, the officials said on condition of anonymity in line with their agency's rules.

The officials identified the dead men as Pakistani militants, but said they were not from the border region. Two other fighters were wounded in the strike.

The United States routinely fires missiles from unmanned drones at militants in northwest Pakistan.

Washington does not publicly acknowledge the program or say who it is targeting, but it is believed to strike at militants intent on crossing over the border into Afghanistan to fight U.S. and NATO forces there. The attacks also target al-Qaida fighters holed up in the lawless tribal area along the frontier.

Monday's attack was the first recorded missile strike in Pakistan since July 12.

The CIA-led program is a source of tension between the United States and Pakistan, which formally protests the missile strikes and says they fuel militancy in the region. Claims of civilian casualties in the strikes are not publicly investigated.

Then it should be posted on the sticky thread, not make a separate thread out of it. There is a sticky thread meant for it.

^^^ This one doesn't contradict the LWJ analysis at all.

^^^ This one has no credibility. Who is Noor Behram ? The article says: "The Guardian was unable to independently verify the photographs. Noor Behram's account of taking the pictures appeared detailed and consistent however. Other anecdotal evidence from Waziristan is conflicting: some insist the drones are accurate, while others strongly disagree."

The fact is, because the drone strikes occur, predominantly, in areas that are "no-go" for both credible independent journalists, and the GoP itself, no one has a reliable quantitative answer to how many "innocents" have been killed versus combatants.

I think I saw a thread where Iran brought down Drones.

Pakistan could borrow a leaf so as to halt this indiscriminate killings if indeed the Pakistan Govt and the Army finds these attacks against Pakistani interests.

There have been many threads about shooting drones down. One is running right now:

Drones are not shot down because Pakistan allows them as a quid pro quo for not moving against the Afghan Taliban. As soon as Pakistan decides to actually eliminate the groups that shelter in Pakistan and fight in Afghanistan, the drones will stop.

Wow, civiian casualties are low numbers compared to leaders. BS lies !!

The numbers of civilian death is very higher than terrorists. There are many cases reports.

US claims of ‘no civilian deaths’ are untrue: TBIJ

Of course there are civilian deaths. After all where are the Taliban from? Tree? They have children and wives too. Osama Bin Laden had his family in the compound as well.
