pakistan should concentrate on latets UAV technology because in the upcoming wars they will play an important role esp against india & israel...

Pakistan already has a range of indigenous designs developped by a local private company and we're looking into JV with Turkey and South Africa to build more.

UCAV rather than 'simple' UAV will play greater role in future conflicts but we're no way close to building one in atleast next decade.

Pakistan air force inducts homemade UAV
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

IANS Sunday 20th April, 2008

Islamabad, April 20 (Xinhua) The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Sunday inducted the unmanned aerial vehicle system (UAVs), developed by its engineers.

The PAF said in a statement the long endurance of UAVs provide sustained support for more efficient and time-critical targeting, and other missions requiring greater persistence than what is provided by manned aircraft.

'In a future time frame, the Pakistan Air Force is looking forward to equipping these unmanned aerial vehicles with the most modern and lethal payloads, thereby enhancing their capability even further,' Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed said.

The air force chief said, 'Upgradation and modernization programme of Pakistan Air Force are successfully progressing at a rapid pace and induction of these air defence systems will make Pakistan Air Force ready to meet the challenges of tomorrow.'

SATUMA (Surveillance And Target Unmanned Aircraft), established in 1989, is a team of highly dedicated, qualified and skilled engineers involved in research and development of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. As the company name implies, SATUMA has been very focused in its objective of developing UAVs indigenously for Pakistan Armed Forces and International customers.

Facility:

The SATUMA research and development site lies 25 km out of Islamabad on the bank of river Soan with an engineering floor area of 5,000 Sq. ft. and a small airstrip for testing and evaluating scaled air frames, testing engines and other outdoor activities.

MEDIUM RANGE

Flamingo is a medium range UAV with an endurance of 6 to 8 hours with a payload carrying capacity of 30 Kg. Flamingo is equipped with an Avionics suite which controls the UAV during it’s beyond visual flight. The UAV flies a pre programmed path which has been fed into the onboard mission computer without any assistance from the Ground. The mission can be manually altered at any time during the flight by a short radio transmission from the ground. Flamingo’s operational radius is only constrained by the line-of-site data links. In case of silent operation, the UAV can reach 400 Km radial distance and return to base. The Line replacement unit architecture of the UAV makes it easy to maintain in field conditions without relying heavily on backup support

TECTICAL RANGE

Jasoos II is a state of the art UAV to be employed for real time information and situational awareness. Bravo+, variant of Jasoos II UAV has been inducted in the Pakistan Air Force. Since its induction in Pakistan Air Force in 2004, Bravo+ has proven to be very reliable system that is extremely easy to operate and maintain. The UAV takeoff and land conventionally from a runway under manual control. Once airborne the UAV can fly autonomously where as mission can be controlled using line-of-site data links. Jasoos II can carry a variety of controllable payloads of up to 20 Kg with an endurance of greater than 4 to 5 hours. The standard variant of Jasoos II is equipped with a steer-able day/low light camera pod capable of being steered 360 deg in azimuth and +/- 105 deg in elevation giving it the capability of panoramic viewing. Bravo+ is currently in production for the Pakistan Air Force as their primary work horse for UAV Operations and Training Program.

SHORT RANGEMukhbar, is a scaled down version of Jassos II, to meet the operational requirement of a short range reconnaissance UAV. The UAV fuselage and wings are completely manufactured using non-metallic materials thus minimizing radar signature. The UAV is completely equipped with autopilot, telemetry, video transmitter and day light camera. The UAV can be operated using a portable ground control station with waypoint navigation within a radius of 30-50 km.

TRAINER
HST is a trainer UAV built around the SATUMA’s Mukhbar airframe. It is used in the UAV operation training program. The HST is used to impart the basic flying skills required to operate an unmanned aerial vehicle. The main aim of HST is to train the pilot in the most crucial part of the flying operation, takeoff and landing. The Avionics in a HST is basically a command receiver to fly the trainer in a Visual circuit. HST is being extensively used in the training of Pakistan Air force (PAF) personnel and is currently in production for the PAF under the name of Parwaz.

FULL SCALE TRAINER

The success of the field deployment of a UAV System mainly rest on the skills and training of the operating crew of the system. We at SATUMA realize this key factor and have designed a comprehensive training program for the operations and maintenance of our products.FST is a trainer UAV built around the Jasoos II Airframe. It is used in the UAV operation training program. The FST has the same flying characteristics as the Jasoos series however it is structurally over designed to take the punishments of the training process. The basic Avionics and telemetry are of limited range to keep the cost of the trainer down.FST is being extensively used in the training of Pakistan Air force (PAF) personnel and is currently in production for the PAF.
