Here in the United States, May 17th, was marked as U.S. Armed Forces appreciation Day. Many Americans celebrate Armed Forces Day annually on the third Saturday of May. It is a day to pay tribute and honor the men and women who serve in the United States Armed forces, which include all different branches, namely Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine, National Guard, Coast Guard and the Reserve unit. It would closely reflect that Pakistani Defense Day celebrated during September 6th-8th.

A short background:

Louis Johnson, who was serving at that time as the U.S. Secretary of Defense in August 31, 1949, announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy and Air Force Days. The event stemmed from the armed forces’ unification under the Department of Defense.
