Two alleged robbers gunned down in shootout

At least two alleged robbers were gunned down while a policeman was injured during an alleged police encounter in Karachi on Thursday.

According to reports, two robbers showed up near Bhains Colony area and started looting citizens.

The police personnel who were on patrolling duty reached the area and robbers started firing at them, leaving a policeman injured.

The police retaliated and fatally injured two robbers. The injured robbers were rushed to a hospital, where they succumbed to injuries.

The injured policeman was identified as Suleiman Khattak.

Weapons, a motorcycle, cash, cell phones and other stolen valuables were seized from the robbers.

The identity of the dead robbers could not be ascertained till the filing of this report

In my view, robbers deserve the death sentence. The reason for this is that they come armed, point a gun at you and are fully willing to shoot if ANYTHING goes "wrong" --- whether it's a cell phone that they think isn't good enough, or you reaching down too fast (out of fear and wanting the situation to end ASAP) to get it --- and therefore need to be dealt with without remorse.

I have recommended to a number of forces to start a street crime initiative that consists of ex-mil / civ spec ops in plain clothes using civ cars with constantly changed number plates who pretend to be easy victims for robbers (e.g. using a cell phone at night and acting clueless in a relatively quiet spot) while other ex/current commandos wait (also dressed as innocent bystanders). The second the "victim commando" is held up by a mugger, the rest of the team kills him or arrests him.

When this method slowly gains popularity, the robbers will no longer know which victim is really an innocent victim and which is a commando team waiting to send them to Hell... and they'll think thrice before holding anybody up.
