What's new

Turkey is preparing to buy/make an aircraft carrier!

I think we shouldnt neccesarely get Aircraft carriers but rather atleast 2 LPDs with V/STOL capability. Its affordable and Cost-effective. So my openion is that we should go for the Juan Carlos Class LPD Specificly because it has V/STOL Capability. I just want to see the Turkish Navy with a AC or atleast something close to it !!!!!:argh:

Do you think that the USS Peleliu (LHA-5), the last of the Tarawa Class, can be acquired by Turkey in that respect when its decommissioned in a few years time.

also why dont we have a cruiser and destroyer?

Dont Think so, Not because its old or something but specificly cause it didnt joined the Tender of the Navy.
There are 3 different LPDs
- Juan Carlos Class (Spanish)
- Dokho Class (S.Korea)
- RMK Marine LPD (Turkey, Domestic)

2 Of them(Turkish and S.Korean) are Non-V/STOL Capable LPDs. I Prefer a Turkified Juan Carlos Class LPD

why dont we have any destroyers?

The Cost of buying a Destroyer is equal to buying 2-3 LPDs, They are VERY expensive! Same Gose for the Cruisers and Battleships.

dont forget the starship..
joke aside a sailing AC would be a nice "tour de force".. expensive one..

how can we be a strong navy then without destroyers , cruiser or battleships im nt even talking about AC even not having these 3 im really suprised

What are the main differences between Frigates, Cruisers and Destroyers?

Sheesh... guys babysteps, we've just recently started making Milgems, and we're on Altay MBT as well, and we're also working an T-129, we're going for LPD because it's something we can use to improve the efficiency of our forces. See the darn connection and get down your high horse :)

Dreaming is nice, I admit that, I'd say a 20x super sonic ICBM would be nice, *flop* 2secs later a AC is removed from existance anywhere in the world.

What is an AC worth if you don't have enough AA guns missiles etc to protect it, it's a sitting duck waiting to be sunk! We've been over this before. You need a fleet to protect the AC, it's worth crap and dung ATM.

To anyone dreaming of a turkish AC, I'd rather dream about my 20x super sonic ICBM. First strike, and surgical precision is what I'd like to see in TSK.

we are lacking alot of stuff unfortunately i have to say this , for us to be a world power first of all 100% we need nukes second we need a destroyer a cruiser and a battleship , we need super missiles , we need beter air defence we need to have such an air defence we need to defend our country every corner like a stretching spider web

Optimistic and fantasy news imho..Lets be realistic..Why would Turkey need an Aircraft Carrier? Navies basically have Aircraft Carriers to provide instantly available air power to fleets at sea or for force projection duties..Turkey has an LPD/LHD project so for force projection, this ship will be more than enough for now..In addition to that, if you operate an AC, you need to have a Carrier Battle Group which is highly expensive in both acquiring and maintaning stages..This would be a huge waste of "limited" sources..One shouldnt forget that Turkey is not an oil rich country

LPD/LHD/helicopeter destroyer/MPSS(whatever people calling it) doesn't sail alone.they usually become the core of a taskforce(consists of escort vessel,logistic vessel,and preferably a submarine).

this type of ship has many other uses other than as power projection.among its roles are amphibious transport, humanitarian effort, transporting large goods and evacuation.

speaking about thailand, their aircraft carrier is indeed an aircraft carrier,a small one.but they have problem operating it(them Harrier they bought are being mothballed). Currently they are going to procure Makassar-class LPD from Indonesia(with assistance from South Korea).Philippines also going to buy Makassar-class LPD(which is no surprise, because Thailand,Indonesia and Philippines have marine corps as their QRF force and philippines and indonesia have thousands of isles)

BS... it is plans to aquire LHD, not aircraft carrier!

why would we need it anyways. we dont have any experience in that area!

Actually Turkey would need a large sized (Think Doko Class) LHD or LPD for any or a combination of the following reasons.

1.Force projection as well as additional strategic options in the event of a hot war involving Turkey (think East).
2.An LHD gives a C&C center for the military and disaster recovery effort in the event government institutions are disrupted due to a massive natural disaster.
3.Capability to better conduct global humanitarian missions, something that Turkey is already doing in a number of nations worldwide.
4.Capability to conduct NATO or UN backed missions requiring the use of such a vessel.
5.Research purposes for the future construction of ships at this size.

Or from a purely military point of view an LHD/LPD can be used to counterbalance the four Russian Mistral LHDs (French are NATO traitors) that will soon take up residence in the Black Sea.
