I remember sitting in the snow all night. We were being bombed. Usually after a few hours it would stop. But not this time. I remember the faces of my kidnappers; how they kept saying, “Ya Rabi, Allah hu Akbar,” as the bombs fell. I remember wondering how someone who celebrated the massacre of innocent children could have the spine to take God’s name. But I would remember being tortured and how they would say Allah hu Akbar every time they hit me. They said it gave them strength, so I would say it right back, and louder because it gave me the strength to take any and everything they threw at me.

When the bombs started falling closer to us, I told my kidnappers, “Inshallah, today there is no escaping. Inshallah, today you will be put to trial.” The same evening, I was sitting in my corner when my guard Sohail ran in, ecstatic. My Uzbek was weak but I could pick up that there had been an attack. Then, Muhammad Ali, the leader of the group, turned around and told me in Urdu, “Alhumdulillah we have avenged our women and children.”

As they took the radio out and started listening to the news, the horrors of what they were celebrating started to dawn upon me. Almost 150 children murdered in cold blood in broad day light. I couldn’t understand what was going on. “Army Public School,” they kept yelling, while hugging each other. “We have hit the enemy at the core,” they said. I had had enough. It was three-and-a-half years into my kidnapping so my fear of fear itself was really just a joke. “You are sick! These are children”, I shouted,” The Holy Quran says never touch women and children literally till they are about to kill you! Have you no respect for the word of God?” Trust me, asking them if they had any morals was stupid. I had screamed that in darkness upon deaf ears millions of times. I told them believe in karma. Believe that when you take something that you have no right over will be destroyed, if not in this life then the next. I told them that neither the Prophet (pbuh) nor his companions ever touched a child — unless it was to give knowledge and love. What they had done was heinous. “We will all die,” I told them. That’s when they said that they had not done it. An Ayat from the Quran and suddenly morality kicked in! They said it was Jundullah (which happened to be the name of their media cell). “Get lost!” I said as I sat back in my corner. I had no tears left but I knew tonight would be a tough night.

After every attack in Pakistan, I felt as if the bombs and bud duas (curses) all fell on me. I survived that night. And many nights after that till one day, a few months later, I saw this picture of my wife, Maheen, with some APS children. I think by this time, just her and my cousin Sharmeen had me as their profile pictures on social media. It had been months since I had had any contact or information. Seeing this picture, I finally found the strength to cry. Finally, I cried not out of pain and loneliness but the fact that there was still someone I could connect to. My wife had written about how being with the children and their families was the closest she had felt to me. I smiled because it was the furthest I had ever felt from her. I thought about those kids and their families and how there really was no justice. How can you give justice to a child who has lost his parent? And how do you console parents who have had their children stolen from them? You can’t. We could not defend our children that day.

The planner of this attack many many months later was in jail with me. I asked him how he justified it and he said that they were going to grow up and become army officers. “Mashallah, brothers”, I said. “We have a man who can see the future!” I told him that perhaps out of the 150, one would have been an imam. Maybe one would have been a doctor who worked pro bono in war-torn areas and treated your grandchildren? Were those two lives not important? Was the life of any Muslim child not important? What were you fighting for? I thought it was for women and children and the cruelty of the great western powers! What exactly is the difference between them and you?

I swear to you, he had boasted (about the attacked) in jail and I know he wasn’t lying because he had two other people with him to back his story about how he had planned the attack. He looked at me and said that the army had done it themselves and that they (militant groups) always took credit for these things but that it was an internal plot. All the other people started to laugh at him (all militants from various Pakistani and Afghan groups taken prisoners by the Taliban for joining the IS). I didn’t laugh. I saw how weak the devil really was. Spineless. I have seen the maddest men of our time. Men who say they are mujahideen, selfless in sacrifice. They were liars, traitors, cowards, thieves and murderers. That night I asked God to forgive me for fighting to stay alive in the company of men like these; for depending on such men to spare or even save my life. I also asked God to make me humble as a man and to embed the memory of that night in my soul so that I would never forget. That is what I ask, never forget. #16December, 2014.

Thanks Shahbaz Taseer for sharing your experiences of that horrible night and of the events related to that night.

All the so-called "Taliban" conducting the business of terrorism in Pakistan, on the false pretext of "Pakistan working for western powers", are doing their terrorism just for the sake of dollars they are getting from enemies of Pakistan. These fake talibans, working under the organizations of LeJ, TTP, Jundullah, are just tools to destroy and terrorize Pakistan. Attacking a muslim state or terrorizing its innocent citizens in any way never falls under the definition of "Jihad" even if the state is wrong in its policies.

Shahbaz Taseer kidnapped by such fake Taliban who are terrorizing Pakistan just for the sake of worldly fortunes.

The world knows the story of Yvonne Ridley who caught by Afghan Taliban during her secret visit to Afghanistan. She has published the entire story of her 10-day captivity in the book "In the Hands of the Taliban". That story also published by Newspaper "Dawn". After her release, she embraced Islam while researching about the the treatment and respect of Afghan Taliban towards her in Holy Qur'an.

Those who fight for in the path of Almight Allah never dare to harm even their worst enemies when these enemies fell in their captivity because we muslims are instructed to do so and will be answerable on the Day of Judgement.

Bro, that actually is not a false pretext ... Although it does not justify terrorism

Do you remember the CIA strike on a Madrassah in Chenegai, Bajaur Agency in Oct 2006 which killed hundreds of children ? The youngest one killed was hardly seven years old.

That attack was originally claimed by PA (Army helicopters were used), But as the scale of the attack unfolded, the story changed and it was "revealed" that CIA drones were used to flatten the entire school building because the Head Master was a known militant.

There are many other similar stories, You may ask anyone from those areas and he will tell You how many of innocent children had died in US drones and PA attacks .. We may call it "collateral damage", but the anger of those who lost their loved ones is understandable.

The inconvenient truth is that We have helped the "western powers" kill our own citizens (including innocent children) in the so called WOT

Very inspiring story

I am sure Salman Taseer would have been a changed man now after suffering from all this (if no spice was added in it)... and will work for the good causes in future.

We really need him to reveal his stories to the people and create general awareness of the brutalities of the Talibaboons

Taseer family should also condemn their father and their father's father asif ali zardari who ran a billions of rupees parallel economy in Karachi and sponsored terrorism in our economic capital.

These bastards with their wealth will never condemn their real masters! Be it zardaris or altafs or miyans or tareens or any bastard who looted money and stole right of Pakistanis! Corruption and not religion or ideology created terrorism! And no one in this country has courage to take on the real saholat kars.raheel and bajwa they made big speeches about operation and that they will eliminate"saholat kars" and "mantaqi anjam" but not one has been hanged not one will be hanged we will keep fighting wars and not bullets or india will destory us but corruption will!

There is NO disagreement and NO justification can be given for the loss of countless innocent lives in the drone attacks during last 16 years. In Islam, this "Collateral Damage" is totally unacceptable.

However, on one hand Pakistan is being terrorised by the fake taliban who justify their actions by using the statements like "Pakistan works for western powers". On the other hand, west blames Pakistan that we are in cahoots with and protecting Afghan Taliban. It a lose-lose situation for Pakistan. Both sides are killing us equally.

The fact is that Pakistan is neither working for Western Power NOR shielding Afghan Taliban. We, as a nation, are fighting the war of our survival by fighting against the fake Taliban who are terrorizing Pakistan. Zarb-e-Azb Operation is an open evidence of this fact.

When it comes to drone attack, I place the blame on both Gen. Musharraf AND Democrtactic govts of AZ and NS who, beyond lip-servicing, did nothing to stop drone attacks. I still remember the statement of Rehman Malik, during AZ's tenure as president, giving statement that Pakistan does NOT possess capability to bring down drones. On very next day, PA demonstrated the capability of
shoulder-fired, man-portable surface-to-air ANZA missile. So now the question is "Do you really want Army to take down the drone by acting as "State within a state" without the approval of Government of Pakistan??

And who has put Pakistan in this lose-lose situation ? We have no one but ourselves to blame for that ...

Pakistan is officially a front-line ally of the US in the US led War on Terror and has been designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA) ... So, the Talibans' claim that "Pakistan works for western powers" is not baseless

And Pakistan although facilitates the US and NATO in many ways, it refuses to go all out against the Afghan Taliban (Because we don't need to do that, and also because we can't afford that) ... Therefore our "allies" criticize us, accuse us of playing double-game and hold us responsible for their failure in Afghanistan ..

We must devise an effective National Security Strategy, and we need to practice a strong and focused foreign policy based on our National interests. As long as we are unable to do that, nothing is going to change

Being a senior member, i expect from you to see this problem objectively, NOT subjectively.

IMHO, this "front-line ally" is just the diplomatic way of declaring us "Punching Bag" to take hits from both sides.

US accuse us of double-game just to hide their own failures in Afghanistan. US have NO Evidence to support their claim. Hear the Former Director of the CIA on this issue.

For this, pray for a govt of a leader with a spine and a pair of nuts.

Then I must say that our difference extends even to the basic definitions of "Objective" and "Subjective."

I stated a simple "fact" that Pakistan is officially a front-line ally of the US in the US led War on Terror and has been designated as a Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA)

You expressed your personal opinion only

I believe that an objective perspective is the one based on facts, and a subjective one is that which is based on opinion or personal feeling

Allah says in the Holy Quran:

"... Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves... " (13:11)

No messiah is coming bro ... Only Prayers aren't enough ... We will have to bring a change ourselves ...

You stated the "fact" and I shared my personal opinion on it. I have no idea what you expected from me to say. :undecided:

As for the definition, I take "subjective" similar to sweeping statements; like "Pakistan cannot live without US". Being "Objective" means to pin-pointing the class of people whose lifestyle is dependent on US as public at large are NOT dependant on US. I hope you understand my analogy

I whole-heatedly agree and China is a major example.
