SUKKUR/FAISALABAD: Three terrorists belonging to banned outfits at Central Jail Sukkur and two convicts at Faisalabad jail sentenced in the Musharraf attack case will be hanged tomorrow (Tuesday).



The three terrorists at Central Jail 1 in Sukkur, Muhammad Shahid Haneef, Muhammad Talha, and Khalil Ahmed were all involved with the murder of Zafar Hussain Shah, Director of Ministry of Defence in the vicinity of Gulbahar Jail in Karachi in 2001.



According to jail authorities, all three will be hanged at 6:30am on Tuesday.



Two accused convicted of orchestrating the murder attempt on former military ruler General Pervez Musharraf, Nawazish Ali and Mushtaq Ahmed, at District Jail Faisalabad will also be hanged Tuesday morning.

7 terror convicts hanged

FAISALABAD / KARACHI / SUKKUR: Seven terror convicts were executed early Tuesday in jails across the country, Express News reported.

The government had lifted a moratorium on the death penalty in terror cases following the Peshawar school attack on December 16 last year.

Three convicts were hanged in Sukkur Central Jail at around 6:30am. Muhammad Talha, Khalil Ahmed and Shahid Hanif were sentenced to death in 2001 for killing then director of defence ministry.

In Karachi’s Central Jail, Behram Khan was executed for killing a lawyer inside court premises in 2003, while in Faisalabad District Jail, two convicts - Nawazish Ali and Mushtaq Ahmad – were hanged for attacking former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on December 17 lifted a six-year ban on the capital punishment and since then, 17 convicts have been hanged.

I suppose it has to do something with hard evidence or something.
Older ones are already put down on the list but couldnt be put on trial due to the law before.

Attack on police: LJ activist to be hanged on 15th

LAHORE: An activist of Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) is scheduled to be hanged to death at the Central Jail on January 15 for attacking a police picket and killing two officials and injuring several others in Multan in August 2000.

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Multan had awarded death sentence on two counts, 40 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs260,000 to Zahid Hussain alias Zahida.

The court had announced that he would have to spend another 11 years and six months in jail if he failed to pay the fine. The court had also issued perpetual arrest warrants for Shahabuddin, the co-accused in the case.

Central Jail authorities have recently written to District and Sessions Judge Taufiq Iftikhar Ahmad requesting him to depute a judicial magistrate to witness the execution and attest Hussain’s ‘last will’, if there was any.

They said Hussain would be executed at 6.30am on January 15. The judge has asked Judicial Magistrate Imran Yousaf to witness the execution.

Hussain was wanted for several terrorist attacks.

According to the prosecution, on August 13, 2000, more than five police officials were on duty on a picket in Multan’s Seetal Mari area when Zahid Hussain and his accomplice rode there on motorcycles.

They opened fire when the policemen tried to arrest Hussain. Assistant Sub- Inspector Ghulam Rasool and Constable Arshad were killed and Muhammad Yousaf was injured in the attack. The suspects fled.

Police had later arrested Hussain.
