Tata Motors on Friday said it has bagged an order for supplying 1,200 multi-axle trucks to the Indian Army.

It is the single largest order awarded to an Indian company in land systems by the Indian army and comprises 1,200 units of high-mobility 6X6 multi-axle trucks, Tata Motors said in a statement.

The trucks will be used for loading-unloading and transportation of ammunition pallets, spares and other operational equipment, it added.

Developed indigenously, the Tata 6X6 high mobility all- terrain all-wheel drive vehicle, has completed a total trial duration of 25 months, demonstrating maximum performance in the most demanding conditions, the company said.

"We at Tata Motors are extremely proud to have bagged the single largest order, among Indian OEM's from the Indian army, for the most technologically advanced high mobility load carrier system ever built here in India," Tata Motors, vice president, defence & government business, Vernon Noronha said.

The order is a validation of Tata Motor's strategy and growth potential, he added.

"As leading suppliers of mobility solutions to the country's security forces, we will shortly commence delivery of these high-mobility vehicles," Noronha said.

Tata Motors stock was trading at Rs 401, up 0.72 per cent, on the BSE.

Those trucks are monsters to put it lightly. You will feel these trucks even before you see them coming round the corner. Fed up of traffic take these trucks to ofc, not even Pune's traffic can stop u from reaching your destination. Another funfact, they have fuel ratings in Lt/Km.

Tata Motors 6X6 High-Mobility MAV

The Tata 6X6 is designed for easy operability. The vehicle is easy to maintain, due to accessibility to its aggregates. The vehicle is fitted with central tire inflation system (CTIS) for mobility in soft sand desert conditions. The CTIS allows the driver to adjust the tyre pressure from his seat. The system provides the vehicle with better traction on different types of surfaces, especially when carrying vital and heavy loads. The Self-Recovery Winch assists in extraction of the vehicle (including other vehicles in the convoy) during operations. The vehicles cabin is modular with HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) and is fully-ready for up-armoring. High ground clearance enables better negotiation of gradients, sand dunes, off-road terrains, trenches with higher water & mud fording capabilities, whilst carrying designated military payloads. The vehicle is also capable of achieving sustained speeds of 40 kmph, on severe cross country terrains.

The Tata Motors 6X6 High-Mobility MAV can be customised for a wide range of applications such as -
  • CGT (Common Gun Tower)
  • MBRL (Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher)
  • MFU (Missile Firing Unit)
  • MSV (Missile Service Vehicle)
  • FSV (Field Service Vehicle)
  • SRSAM (Short Range Surface to Air Missile)
  • QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface to Air Missile) vehicle
  • LLQRM (Low Level Quick Reaction Missile) vehicle
  • MRV (Medium Recovery Vehicle)

These trucks are absolute Crap. I can't understand why those redundant idiots sitting in India still are pursuing it. Being fully aware of the trouble it caused back in sudan in the desert heat.

Stupid infantry idiots on both sides.

TATA has supplied over 1,00,000 vehicles to the Indian military and Paramilitary forces, so far since 1958 - it has established itself as a supplier of specialist vehicles for UN peacekeeping missions as well.

GSA, KBR, Oxfam, RONCO, RA International & Riders - International agencies involved in AID & Development all across the globe including Africa/Sudan - all of them continue to procure Tata Motors range of off-road vehicles.

They are even popular among the Sudanese civilians as well - evident from their import records at least - Export Data and Price of tata lpk 1618 to Sudan | Zauba

Tata Motors exports its range of specialized defence vehicles to the SAARC, ASEAN and African regions.

Please enlighten us of the sources of your claim or else stop embarrassing yourself.

We had a several problems witht hese trucks in Sudan 2009 as per SOP we were instructed to operate the Tata trucks that were briught by the indian ASC contingent. We transporting people and ration to juba it was a 34 hour drive . I had an indian accompanying me. We were having have usual talk about how officer's from infantry are idiots and don't understand the logistics and then the two forward trucks of our convoy came a stand still. Their engine and radiators were completely blown out and when it came to repair
it took us 5 hour they still couldn't get them to work.

Eventually the ASC officer told me that the trucks were causing consistent problems and because of the higher lobby they had to make do with them . After we had called our own Hinopak trucks .

Then we ourselves had to tow them. We had a repair facility. The problem with the trucks that TATA produced is that they are in capable of handling temperature above 52 degree's. We returned them deeming them as obsolete.

We and Indian eventually decided that for long transport Pakistan truvjs will be used. Indians could provide security ti the convoys.

It wont operate in such a heat dont worry. It will do just fine. Maybe extreme heat in sudan was too much for those trucks.

Heat was not the only concern the other was there inability to to turn and at times from to gear box to crank shaft grinded up . But that was what I saw back then and what the fellow indian officers had shared with me.

The problem might have been addressed in the current models All I know is the chaps at ASC wont be happy.
