'Tamil Nadu politicians used LTTE to achieve their goals'

Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingam alias Kumaran Pathmanathan (or simply KP) took over the reigns of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam following the killing of the outfit's chief Velupillai Prabhakaran. He was arrested and brought to Sri Lanka two years ago.

Now under the custody of the Sri Lankan Army, the former LTTE weapons procurer spoke to VK Shashikumar of THL-Mediagrove in an exclusive interview. An excerpt:

When you look back at the war which led to the end of the LTTE, what are the first reflections that come to your mind?

We fought for freedom. We failed. The war is over. Now it is the beginning of a new era. The new world order taught us that we have to live together. We have learnt from our past experience that we should build a bridge between the two races. This is a small country with a small population.

We had paid a high price (with the bloodshed). Enough! We should live together, respect each other and accept each other's dignity. Our lives are nearly at an end, but the new generation should live peacefully in this country. That is what we are working on.

I think we should work towards establishing a Tamil Eelam.

We could also have a naval port there.

but of course, they have to be friendly towards India and not like what they have done so far by killing our leader etc.

Let them do what ever is best for them, without indulging in genocide of Tamils . or else, LTTE will rise again, with or without outside help.

:what: once again you want to establish LTTE terrorists against Sri Lanka?

Not LTTE. We will have to look for other alternatives this time if the Lankans don't mend their ways.

Wickremasinghe to meet Indian leaders

TamilNet: 29.05.11 Wickremasinghe to meet Indian leaders
[TamilNet, Sunday, 29 May 2011, 03:16 GMT]
Ranil Wickremasinghe, leader of the main opposition United National Party (UNP), is to leave for New Delhi on Monday on a two day visit. Wickremasinhe is expected to hold talks with the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, leader of the Congress Party Ms Sonia Gandhi, and several ministers in the Indian government, according to UNP sources in Colombo.

Political circles in Colombo view Ranil Wickremasinghe visit to New Delhi in connection with the UN Experts Panel report.

India is also applying pressure to the government of Mahinda Rajapakse to find a political solution to the Tamil question, as revealed in the joint statement issued in New Delhi by the two governments after a three-day visit by Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister G.L.Peiris in Delhi.
