Taliban infighting breaks out
20 militants killed in clashes between Sajna, Mehsud groups

Peshawar/MIRANSHAH - Clashes between two Pakistani Taliban factions have left at least 20 dead, security officials and militant sources said Monday, in a sign of the intense rivalries within the umbrella grouping.

The fighting took place in the tribal regions between supporters of Khan Said Sajna, a senior commander once tipped to lead the group, and those of former leader Hakimullah Mehsud who was killed in a US drone strike last November.

A security official in Islamabad told AFP that at least 15 militants were killed in an overnight clash between the groups along the border of the North and South Waziristan tribal agencies.

Another security official and two militant sources in North Waziristan confirmed the clash.
Fighting broke out once again on Monday, killing a further five militants.

“At least five people including a commander of Hakimullah Mehsud was killed in a rocket attack on a vehicle in South Waziristan,” a local security official said, naming the commander as one “Shadeed Mehsud”.

“The dead bodies were severely burnt in the attack carried out in Shaktoi area and complete identification of the militants was difficult,” he added.

The second attack was confirmed by a militant source.

Official sources said unknown persons attacked a car in the Shaktoi area of South Waziristan Agency, killing at least five people and injuring another.

Other sources said that the clash occurred between the Khan Said alias Sajna and Waliur Rehman groups of the TTP.

The reason for the clashes was unclear. But the umbrella Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group which was formed in 2007 has long been mired in infighting.

Khan Said Sajna, head of his own faction, was a strong candidate to become TTP chief following Mehsud’s death.

But the movement’s Shura (advisory board) at the last minute elected Mullah Fazlullah, who hails from Swat and is believed to be hiding in Afghanistan.

The Pakistani government began negotiations through intermediaries with the TTP in February to try to end its bloody seven-year insurgency.

The TTP have demanded the release of what they called “non-combatant” prisoners and the establishment of a “peace zone” from which security forces would be barred. The latter request has already been rejected informally.

Earlier, a key commander and Shura member of the TTP Asmatullah Shaheen Bhittani had been killed during a clash between two rival TTP factions.

All ISI have to do is creep into Kunar across the border and poison the water supply. Everyone will die including TTP and their families and nobody will know who done it.

Perfection.

ویسے حیرت ہے یہ کتے شریعیت لگائیں گے جو ایک تھالی میں روتی کھا نہیں سکتے
Actually ISI is responsible for it. Why exactly pro-peace taliban and anti-peace taliban are fighting with each other? The answer is ISI. It is not the firs time that ISI has applied british's divide and conquer formula on taliban.
Sajna is the stupid one here, he would be also hunted down by army after he serves their purpose.

Not exactly. But i am analysing the situation in broader context, what taliban are doing with each other, is what exactly pakhtuns are doing with each other since thousands of years. They will never succeed due to this weakness in any movement whether it is nationalist, tribal, communist or taliban.
British used to do the same, provoking one tribe against another making sure that even two tribes do not get united against them.....e.g wazirs and mehsuds never joined their forces against british. They spilled each other blood as well as fought british individually.
This taliban internal conflicts due to schemes of enemy, are not surprising....history is getting repeated

38 die in intra-Taliban fight
two groups of Taliban fought with each other killing six in Shawal, in rocket attack on a vehicle. In five days of infighting, 38 Taliban were killed in all from both sides.

The Taliban leadership was said to be engaged in stopping the infighting between the two factions.

Taliban have also linked the extension in ceasefire with the attitude of the government, which they previously dubbed as non-serious.

The majority of the Taliban are said to have opposed the ceasefire proposal and said the government has done nothing about the peace zone and release of the Taliban prisoners.

In a separate incident an explosion in Dattakhel near a vehicle killed three people.

The infighting reportedly took place between Hakimullah Mehsood and Khalid Sajna groups.

Earlier on Thursday, 11 people were killed in an attack on a hotel and a vehicle in the area of Shawal. A key commander of Mehsood group Shafique was killed along with his four guards in the area of Shaktoi. Another important member of Taliban Ismatullah Shaheen has also been killed.

One central leader of Taliban has also reached North Waziristan to broker a deal between the two groups.
