ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday overruled an election tribunal decision and restored KPK assembly membership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Ikram Ullah Gandapur, Samaa reported.
Last week, an election tribunal in Peshawar disqualified KPK minister for agriculture Ikram Ullah Gandapur over his fake degree, and ordered reelection in PK-67 Dera Ismail Khan constituency.
Gandapur won the KPK assembly seat in by-elections held in December last year. His degree was challenged by an independent candidate Sardar Fatehullah Khan Miankhel in Dera Ismail Khan’s election tribunal.
Today, three-member bench led by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk heard a petition challenging the tribunal’s decision.
The bench overruled the election panel’s verdict and issued notices to both the parties before adjourning the case till Oct 14.
