Russian fighters to use Thales Damocles targeting pods

The Su-34 doesn't need any targeting pod, because Su-34 has its own targeting optical station installed on the plane.

Also, no SAPSAN or Tales not in service in our air force.

They simply aren't needed for the task of front-line aviation. For the ground missions there is special jets, such as Su-34, Su-24, Su-25, etc.

However:

The ventral electro-optical targeting system provides a limited capability and is only suitable for medium/high level deliveries, due to its limited field of regard. It is likely to be soon supplemented by a licence built Thales Damocles thermal imaging and laser targeting pod. Russian sources claim that the Russian MoD licenced the pod design, expected to be built by the Ural Optical Mechanical Plant (UOMZ), after exposure to the design during the integration of the pod on the Malaysian Su-30MKM Flanker H. Future candidates for the pod, other than the Su-34, are the Su-35-1/35BM Flanker F, the Su-27SM/SMK Flanker B+ and upgraded Su-24M2 Fencer. The pylon installation, given hardware commonality between the SU-30MK and Su-34, is likely to be identical for both types.

The Platan system is a simple basic system that offers performance similar to the Kaira system on the Su-24 and the Mig-27K. It is day and night capable but not all weather, with LLLTV and probably image intensification capability but not a thermal imaging system. It is built in, however, and together with the navigation elements offers the ability to use dumb rockets and bombs as well as TV and laser guided weapons. The Thales Damocles will be licence produced in Russia and the first aircraft it will likely be fitted to is the Su-34, as an external pod to compliment the internal Platan system. By carrying the Damocles pod the Fullback will have all weather day & night optics, while without it it would have to rely on radar for bad weather targeting. For export there is the domestic Sapsan E.

And they are used on export Su-30MKM, for example.

Thales and UOMZ sign co-production agreement

French Thales and Urals Optical and Mechanical Plant (UOMZ) under the auspices of Rosoboronexport have agreed on the production of hanging onboard containers for armaments fitted with Damocles laser designator pods in Ekaterinburg.

Damocles containers installed under the wings of combat strike aircrafts provide precision guidance for air guided surface targeted weapon. All the 18 versatile SU-30MKM aircrafts, ordered by Malaysia, are to be fitted with Damocles containers.

Experts believe the production of French containers in Russia will help expand their use in Russian combat aircrafts that are exported to third countries.

Thales is one of the leading French avionics manufacturers. Notably Indian SU-30MKI and Malaysian SU-30MKM feature Thales equipment. MKM and MKI standards differ in airborne equipment specifications.
