What's new

South Asian Games 2016

Bangladesh is the junior among all the countries. Most were created around 47 or before while BD after 71. So it will take time to build necessary infrastructures and funding to cope with others. Until then enjoy your 15 minutes of world fame.

Afghanistan won almost double the golds than you! Their current political existence is barely 15 years old and they have like a small percent of the sport infrastructure (even per capita) of B'desh....yet they did really well in Taekwondo.

This 1971 excuse doesn't fly anymore. Start some honest introspection rather than recycling excuses.

Afghanistan's independence is 1919. BD itself also went through political instability even after 71. Nothing much happened on ground still today. Only investments happened in Cricket. And other sports are played by undernourished slum people. So we know what is there. Given our initial infrastructures were in Calcutta and Karachi we are building everything from scratch. No other country in this region is broken like that. And these Central Asian countries can run to any neighboring countries for help for superior stuffs which isnt the case here. So thanks for your concern which is in our lowest priority list.

LOL...every country goes through instability and crises in the region.

I mean even Bangladesh managed to win 18 golds when hosting last time....and it dropped to a puny 4 this time.

You are the one that was hoping Bangladesh would exceed its performance last time, and instead it got eclipsed by the likes of Afghanistan.

So out you come with the same old 1971 + instability card.

Have you looked at Afghanistan's GDP per capita, wealth and budget compared to Bangladesh?

They experienced almost 2 decade long version of 1971 and they are winning more golds than you now.

And your retort is they got independence in 1919?? You can't pull out "date of independence" and expect to mean something without context....not with the conflict that Afghans experienced for that long since 1979 and the continued turmoil they continue to face. 1971 in comparison was quite a short affair....and the stability in Bangladesh has been much better for the last couple decades....at least there are no coups these days and whole political families being murdered.

Bangladesh should have won at least a double digit number of golds this time is all I am saying....or at least done better than Afghanistan.

But the reality sunk in good and hard this time, maybe you should not have put so much "hope" in it and jinxed it.

Why bro why? Bangladesh's performance is same from last few edition editions of games except in which they hosted. While Afghanistan improved.

Well he was the one loudly wishing for an even better performance by Bangladesh than when they hosted...like it was some spectacular accomplishment and definitive trend.

Now he has realised just what a blip on the radar it was and is sulking.

Anyways congrats to all the medal winners, I don't want to continue this conversation when India has a long way to go in sporting department. We should not take joy in crushing minnows around us, but look to competing strongly with the real world powers in various sports.
