Should PAF be looking at EJ200 for Thunder

The article below quotes a unit cost of $6.7 million for the euro fighter engine EJ200 complete with TOT.

Total deal $660m for 99 engines.

EJ200 the the newest latest engine from europe powering the Typhoon SHOULD PAF be looking at this opportunity since they have good relation with UK & GERMANY

How can PAF look at it when they are offering it to india?

These engines got super cruise which at the moments is a classified technology...
Pakistan being Chinese ally,doesn't stand a chance.

o bhai......engine is not a missile or an aircraft which PAF should reject given India Uses it:lol:....PAF is more interested in Snecma M88 because
1- The company has good repute and history in engine technologies where as Euro Jet is a relatively new born baby in the business
2- PAF has good and satisfactory experience with the company so why to go for a new product when you're satisfied with your existing vendor?
The Supercurise is not a technology that is stuffed in engine but it depends upon a host of factors most importantly engine power and weight of the aircraft. If typhoon is able to SC due to two EJ-200s, JFT may not be able to do so or even may perform worse if the thrust generated by EJ-200 is insufficient.( Just an example for your understanding) :coffee:

PAF already has enough RD93s for JF-17. Plus they are pretty optimistic on WS 13.

Hi,

Designing an engine for supercruise---is a science in itself---. It takes the jet engine building technology to a totally different pleateau.

Err,

i think Pakistan had enough of Western experience in the past.

When we have two different engines in hand, why do we need the third one?

Could be a contingency for WS13 and maturity curve of it. WS13 is a brand new engine and needs to prove itself in terms of maintenance and life-span other things.

May be PAF knows something about JF-17 that is not known publicly.

EuroJet for Typhoon is also a new engine, though based on an old one, but first time implemented in such an aerodynamic design.

The reason for going towards WS 13 is the stoppage of Supply by Russia of RD series engines in the future.


WS13 might not be as reliable, but if it is produced in large numbers in China and Pakistan without any hindrance, the cost would be less.

So you can trade reliability for low cost as entire engine replacement becomes cheaper.


Now even the best fighter engines stall and result in crashes...so that's a different story.

So, cheaper WS 13 would mean, swap the old faulty engine out, put new one in. Another reason, maybe, why PAF prefers single engine fighters.

Another advantage that M88 enjoys over EJ-200 is that along with other goodies, it is also optimized for reduced IR signature, so AC with M 88 will be relatively difficult to hit with IR missile.

Isn't super cruise a classified tech? How can you be so sure about your analysis?
