Senate standing committee summons Shaukat Aziz

ISLAMBABAD: The standing committee of Senate has summoned former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on August 23 over financial irregularities.

A meeting of Senate’s standing committee for social welfare and special education presided by Senator Enver Baig was held here that took the notice of financial irregularities in “ Tawana Pakistan” program and summoned former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and former federal ministers on August 23.

The committee has informed that the PC-I of Tawana Pakistan program for supplying food and medicines to 530,000 students was incomplete.

Former secretary for social welfare and special education Aleem Mahmood said that in some areas, no school was existed and the program was halted twice due to irregularities on massive scale.

Chairman Pakistan Baitul Mal Zamarud Khan informed the committee that during 20 months, out of Rs. 600 million only Rs.180 million spent over food and medicines whereas the remaining amount was misused.

The committee took the serious notice of financial irregularities and summoned former Prime Minster Shaukat Aziz, former federal ministers and secretaries on August 23 for clarification.

Aziz should still appear before Parliament.

Why? So some more trumped up charges are thrown at him? Who will provide him the security and the fair play once he is inside Pakistan? My own advice to SA, send the senate a nice "thank you but no" card in the mail and move on with your life.
