Dunya TV Print: Senate polls on March 2: ECP

The ECP has declared that candidates may submit their nomination papers till February 14.

These elections would be contested for 54 seats. Four seats are reserved for minorities under the 18th Amendment, said the ECP.

The ECP said the potential candidates can submit their nomination papers by Feb 13 and 14, scrutiny of the papers would be completed by Feb 16 and 17, while nomination papers could be withdrawn by Feb 24. The appeals regarding objections would be disposed off on Feb 22 and 23, said the ECP.

According to the Constitution, the Senate is a permanent institution for which half the memebrs are elected after every new tenure.

The opposition parties have been considering resigning from the National Assemblies as a way to delay Senate elections and deny the PPP a chance to post majority.
