Martial Races of India' Jat of the Indian Army, Western United Provinces, 1944 (c).

The Jat people are considered to be the merged descendants of the original Indo-Aryans invaders of India. They follow the Moslem, Sikh and Hindu faiths and live in northern India and in what is now Pakistan. They have a long history of soldering and the British soon recruited them into the Indian Army, declaring them to be one of India's 'Martial Races'.

20th Duke of Cambridge´s Own Infantry (Brownlow´s Punjabis)

This regiment was raised in 1857 as the 8th Regiment of Punjab Infantry and was designated as the 20th Duke of Cambridge´s Own Infantry in 1904.

Today, it is the 6th Battalion, The Punjab Regiment in the modern Pakistan Army.

The British however did initially recruit South Indian Coorgs and Nairs but they didn't "prove" to be much effective and the units were disbanded and recruitment stopped among them..

Wrong .
They disbanded Nair battalion and stopped their recruitment because they took weapons against Brits under a Travancore Chieftain .

Nairs,Coorgs we're undisciplined and considered non Martials .. They were considered warriors but after bad experiences with them the recruitment was cancelled..

People still think that the British didn't recruit bangalis because they fought/mutinied against them.. Yet bangalis were never recruited and even the bangal army comprised of Awadh Muslims,Brahmans and Rajputs.

I'm not inventing anything from my own self .. David Omissi is the official historian of British army.. His book details everything from the particular habits of races down, their habits and down to recruitment at platoon or company level. With data collected from official British Indian army records, testimonies of British officers etc...

Be my guest and buy the book or find it at a library.

Martial Race that classified by British

For them martial means loyal slave .
Some groups obeyed and some others revolted

Please don't rant coz of your butt hurt over your "ethnic" or caste being not recruited by them.

The martial race theory even extended to the Scots and Welsh..

Your lame excuse of fighting is useless considering there were many other groups that faught and even mutinied and yet they were recruited...

The Baloch (including the Baloch rulers of Sindh state)..kept fighting the British despite treaties and yet the British didn't stop recruitment (although not many turned up)... ....There were entire Panjab & Frontier Force refinements that mutinied, fought and even deserted to the Ottomans yet the recruitment didn't stop.

The Rajputs and Brahmins and others who mutinied in 1857 ... And yet the recruitment didn't stop...

The bangalis never fought (minus the battle of Plasseys) yet they weren't never recruited... There are many other modern Indian ethnic groups that weren't recruited...
While modern day Pak alone sent 400,000 troops to fight in WWI.

Our revolt was not some ordinary ,entire community turned against them .
And they could import others to defeat us ,they were numerically superior .

Kalari was our own martial arts and fighting techniques .Brits totally prohibited that .
