PESHAWAR: A blast occurred near a school bus in Bhana Mari area of Peshawar on Monday, killing two and injuring one child.

Express 24/7 correspondent Iftikhar Firdous reports the bus, carrying students of the ‘Sir Syed Islamia Model school’, was targeted in the Bhana Mari area on Kohat road, injuring several people. Most of the children had been dropped off to their homes when the blast took place. Initial reports had indicated that two children had been killed as a result of the blast, however latest reports indicate that the children were injured.

According to witnesses on the scene, firing ensued in the area after the blast. All roads leading into Peshawar have been blocked and security forces have blocked movement into the city.

Rescue operations are underway and heavy traffic is causing difficulties in recovering the injured. The injured are being shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, and emergency has been declared in all hospitals. Peshawar Police have arrested two suspects from the site.

Bhana Mari is located on Kohat Road, where militant activity such as the targeting of girl schools has taken place in the past.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- A school van driver and a child were killed in a bomb blast in Peshawar, Pakistan, authorities said.

At least two other children were injured in the explosion, The Nation reported.

Officials said terrorists are attacking civilian targets because it is more difficult to hit high-value targets such as government buildings and military bases.

Police officer Ejaz Khan told the Associated Press of Pakistan the bomb was detonated by remote control. He said no one had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Officials said two people were detained following the blast because they couldn't explain what they were doing in the area.

Senior Provincial Minister Bashir Bilour said militants are striking civilian targets out of frustration that they can't attack sites with adequate security.

Peshawar bomb kills teenage boy and bus driver

The blast ripped through the vehicle, leaving charred wreckage and a crater on the ground nearby A bomb blast has hit a school bus in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar, killing the driver and a 13-year-old boy.

The roadside bomb, of the type used against Nato troops in Afghanistan, was planted in a bin.

The device went off in the busy Bhana Marri area on the Kohut road, the scene of many blasts.

Last week a suicide bomb claimed by the Taliban killed more than 40 people in north-west Pakistan.

A 13-year-old girl is among four people seriously injured after Monday's explosion, police say.

Six-year-old Eman, one of the wounded, told Reuters TV from her hospital bed: "When I saw the smoke, I ran towards my teachers at the back [of the bus]. The teachers said 'come, come'. So we got off the bus."

Peshawar is close to Pakistan's insurgency heartland tribal regions and the Afghan border.

The city has been the scene of frequent attacks by the Taliban, including on government installations and security force targets.

Correspondents say that militants in the north-west have frequently attacked schools - especially girls' schools - but usually when children are not there.

Police officials said the bomb may have been intended for police patrols that frequently pass by the area.

Police are also examining the possibility that the bomb may have missed its intended target.

The bus was hit near a private school, police say, and the blast ripped through the vehicle, leaving charred wreckage and a crater on the ground nearby.

Words painted in English which read "Islamia Model High School" were still visible on the vehicle's side.

The TTPs attempt to destabilize the region has reached a new low and from attacks on Mosques, Shrines, and Shopping Centers to now on little children’s school buses. The desperation is evident from this most recent attack! People have started refuting their evil agenda and propagandas have lost the grip and conviction. They have certainly shifted their attention towards the kids and after using them as suicide bombers to now attacking them to create unrest! BBC World Service - Programmes - Pakistan's child suicide bombers

Can anyone predict what their next course of action will be? One must rest assured their ideology and evil agenda will continue to encourage them to harm innocent civilians and in order to protect its innocent citizens, the Pakistani government must eliminate this threat from its land.

Since when did school children become prime target of attacks? Is this not the mentality of the TTP? Do they not create mayhem at every chance they get? Their goals are to create fear among the masses so they can enforce their reign of terror. Their actions have become unexplainable and simply put, actions have long begun to contradict their own stated beliefs. We are in the region helping Pakistani forces to eliminate the Taliban and Al Qaida menace once and for all so this terror is stopped and people of the region can live free of fear.

That is why we need to plan a decisive NWA Operation to clean the swamp once and for all. Though there will be people that may escape and we might have to fight pockets of resistance but the head of the terrorists is in NWA and the GOP should not wait too long.

Though the guard cannot be let down on the eastern border with India for troop deployment because India is increasing weapon locating radars, naval vessels, Israeli AWACS and an array of weapons.
