Russia vows to give adequate response to NATO expansion

Russian President Vladimir Putin has pledged to respond to NATO's expansion toward Russia's borders amid tensions with the Western alliance over the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Putin made the remarks on Tuesday at an emergency meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation in Moscow.

“We shall provide an adequate and well-measured response to NATO’s expansion towards Russia’s borders, and we shall take note of [the West] setting up a global missile defense architecture and building up its arsenals of precision-guided weapons,” said Putin, adding that the Western military alliance is “blatantly building up its forces in Eastern Europe, including the Black Sea and the Baltic Sea areas.”

According to Putin, NATO military buildup near Russia's borders is not just for defense as the Western alliance claims, but is “an offensive weapon” and “element of the US offensive system deployed outside the mainland.”

Furthermore, Putin called for the implementation of all planned measures “to strengthen" Russia's "defense capabilities, including...plans for Crimea and Sevastopol.”

This comes as NATO has held a number of war games in Eastern Europe after Ukraine’s Autonomous Republic of Crimea integrated into the Russian Federation following a referendum in March.

NATO has also reinforced its air patrol over the Baltic region, with radar-equipped aircraft making regular flights over the territories of Poland and Romania.

Last month, the Western military alliance held military drills near Russia’s western border. Nearly 5,000 troops and 800 military vehicles from 10 NATO member states, including the US, Britain and Canada participated in the war games near the Latvian capital, Riga.

Russia sees the Western military alliance’s moves as a sign of aggression amid the crisis in Ukraine.

only bla bla bla still living in cold war era both of them

Russia is gonna get fucked up with those sanctions in reality,,,damn.

The sanctions will effect the imposer more then the one their imposed on. :v :v :v

Those sanctions would affect US allies more, in fact, they will only affect the EU and Russia the most. That is what the US in fact wants. A good neighborliness between the EU and Russia is the nightmare for the US.

Can you imagine a economic area stretching from Portugal to China. Where would that leave the US to be? Right, at the edge of the world.

After involvement and complicity with the Malaysian air crash, Russia should be vowing to give their full cooperation in the investigation. Otherwise they may face more sanctions and their oil industry may suffer even more.

nop , they are pretty much self reliant

That's not what the Russian CEO of the oil company that was sanctioned said. He has been complaining to Putin that one of the countries largest oil companies in the country is financially suffering from the sanctions .Oil is traded on the value of the dollar. No country other than the US that exports oil can ever be truely self-sufficient in oil as long as the sale and trade of oil is on the value of the dollar.

Economic area from Portugal to China? You do realize US on its own has an economy nearly the size of the entire EU. An economic area with China couldn't exist today if it were not for US companies moving their manufactuing jobs to China in the millions.

The whole world is laughing at the US right now, don't you know? The US' best intel is youtube, that's what the spokesperson just said.

Tell the US companies to go home and see what will happen. EU, Russia and China combined would drown the US economically in the Marianna Trench. A cooperation of the Eurasian continent would also be in control of Africa and Oceania.

You really are a fool. Whole world is laughing? That's just your delusional imagination. You're real country of Russia is going to get it bad and now you are seeking European allies? They very NATO allies that establish themselves against you? Now that is funny a Russia pandering for help. Russia is already paying a heavy price for its actions in Ukraine.

China would economically collapse because they lost millions of jobs. The manufacturing base could be moved to other Asian countries that can manufacture for a low cost.
