Defence News - Renault Sherpa Light Military Truck For India

Certainly seems to be close to what IA is looking for, ie a system smaller than an MRAP but a common platform with multiple roles (ie a JLTV-type vehicle).

We need product from LOCAL COMPANY- Public or Private.
It's time to support them , at least in such sectors.
ENOUGH OF BUYING THIS............. BUYING THAT ....FROM OVERSEAS.
We should follow the policy of ....
WE NEED IT...WE MAKE IT...

There's nothing new here. It was on offer to us last Defexpo also. IA also needs such vehicles but there are more important deals than this one like VSHORAD, SHORAD, air defence gun, QRSAM, MRSAM, ATGM, LUH, M777, other artillery, MBT modernization and new MBT purchases to replace old ones, FINSAS etc. etc.

Completely agree with you there, my friend.

MoD should allow companies like TATA, Mahindra etc. to manufacture such land vehicles
at least. TATA is already building an FICV that is similar to the M-1126 Stryker, so why can't
they build something like this? Its pretty much simple for them. Corrupt MoD. Antony should
allow India-based private sector companies to bag such deals.

Has indian army purchased any such vehicle yet ??? IA also wants local company to produce such a plaform because local product will be cheaper and can be inducted in large number. Nobody is stopping private companies from making such platform but instead we are getting these...

Firstly from the armor point of view these vehicles are way behind from the likes of JLTV, Renault Sherpa, Dingo 2, AMPV etc.

People when MOD and IA can allow private sector to participate in FICV project, what makes you think that IA or MOD will stop them from making armored vehicles ?? Infact they are waiting for a decent one to come but they won't wait forever. Once the funds kick in for armored vehicle, if there's a product by private sector then it will be evaluated or they will move on and look for an international product.

What i don't get is when Tata, ALL, Mahindra has such a good tie-ups then why are n't they bringing products like :

1. KMW Dingo 2

2. KMW-Rhienmetal AMPV (Really hot)

3. BAE JLTV

4. BAE RG series

Russia is purchasing IVECO, It will be best for us too...

--------------------------------------------------

Secondly IA is more interested in the inside electronics too. Military vehicles have important electronics parts too. Just making a SUV, putting some lower level armored plates and painting in colors of armed forces doen't fulfill the needs of armed forces. IA still has purchased some vehicle i think but in small number.

The sales for MPVs are picking up. There are reports of decent purchases of MPVs of Tata and Mahindra from MHA and MOD.

Private Sector have to dig in their pocket for every JV, R&D and yet they are not sure whether MOD will let them 'IN' in the competition or not. thus , it is a gamble for them
Why doesn't MOD take the lead in this . Let MOD, issue them the specifications, it's criteria and schedule and some portion of DEVELOPMENT COST.
Then only they will come up with some products , suiting the ALL the specific requirements ( via JV or by other means). U compete their products and select the best one.
Their products right now are from their own imagination of the requirements of the armed forces, hence such a vast difference in them.

What about this one?
