Associated Press Of Pakistan ( Pakistan's Premier NEWS Agency ) - 7 Pakistani universities among top Asian, 3 in top world Universities: QS Ranking-2013


ISLAMABAD, June 16 (APP): Seven Pakistani universities have won its place in the list of top 250 Asian Universities and three Pakistani universities are now among the Top 200 World universities in agriculture and forestry, according to QS World Universities Rankings 2013. Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) UK is the world’s most renowned and prestigious ranking agency.According to its ranking for 2013, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad (QAU) 119, National University of Science and Technology Islamabad (NUST) 120, Agha Khan University Karachi (AKU) 152, Lahore University of Management Sciences Lahore (LUMS) 191, University of Engineering & Technology Lahore (UET),University of Karachi and University of the Punjab Lahore 201 are now in top 250 Asian Universities.
While three Pakistani universities including University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) 142, Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (UAAR) 152 and Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad (QAU) 172, are now among the Top 200 World universities in the disciplines of agriculture and forestry.
Commenting on this international recognition of Pakistani higher education sector, Dr. Javaid R. Laghari Chairperson Higher Education Commission (HEC) said that during last year six Pakistani universities were among top 300 Asian universities and this year seven are in top 250.
He said it reflect that the quality of universities in the last three years has significantly improved and Pakistan has now become a world player in higher education sector.
“With our hard work, and with the support of the democratic government, hopefully at least 10 Pakistani Universities will join the ranks of the leading universities of the world within the next couple of years”, he remarked.
The education experts describe this achievement in higher education sector of Pakistan as miracle and outcome of the revolutionary reforms introduced by HEC and dedicated hard work by the university faculty and researchers.
It speaks consistent support of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in terms of improving infrastructure, access to digital Library, providing quality education and opportunities for conducting innovative research, establishing international linkages, participating in international exchange programs and producing graduates as per requirement of national/international industry,academia and corporate sector, the chairman said.
Since the establishment of HEC in 2002, research output has grown eight-folds which were from 815 in 2002 to more than 6,300 in 2012 with the largest numbers of publications in areas of relevance to economic development.
He said the world share of Pakistan’s research has gone up by 300 percent in the last five years due to increasing number of research publications. 90% of these research publications from Pakistan are coming from higher education institutions.
He added that no university was ranked in the top universities of the world three years back.
 
@Windjammer, These are ranking in Asia... long way to go.

In pakistan the problem is universities usually donts end their data for ranking and still alot of awareness and funding is required for research. Mostly those universities are at higher ranking which have good number of publication + PHD faculty and better student to faculty ratio.
