PESHAWAR: After having suffered a split within its parliamentary party, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf witnessed another setback on Thursday when a majority of its provincial cabinet revolted and expressed no-confidence in its leadership.

The provincial cabinet of PTI, which met at Officers’ Mess with its president Azam Swati in the chair, witnessed embarrassing situation when 15 of its members openly challenged his nomination as well as that of its provincial general secretary Khalid Masood.

An insider said that most of those in attendance boycotted the proceedings against the nomination of un-elected office-bearers of the party including the provincial president and provincial general secretary, shortly before the arrival Chief Minister Pervez Khattak.

A visibly embarrassed chief minister found just a few of the cabinet members present.
Dr Nadeem Alam, focal person of the dissident group, told Dawn that there was growing grievances within the party organisations and units about the indifferent attitude of the party leadership to their problems and demands.

He said that 18 cabinet members and office-bearers had signed a document, pledging their adherence to the basic principles of the party’s constitution which prohibited the nomination of un-elected people to party positions.

He said that Mr Swati and Mr Khalid Masood were un-elected office-bearers, nominated by the party chairperson, Imran Khan, as an interim arrangement.

Mr Alam said that the party constitution clearly stated that there would not be any nominations to party positions after intra-party elections.

“One is a millionaire; the other is a retired bureaucrat. They have been parachuted into the party from the top. What concern and what understanding do they have of the grievances and problems of the party workers, party organisation and party units,” Mr Alam said.

PTI parliamentary party has already suffered a split with the emergence of what the so-called 14-member ‘like-minded group’ led by MPA Qurban Ali, which has shown serious reservation over the performance of the Khattak-led coalition government and some of its cabinet ministers and alleged corruption.

Qurban Ali has maintained that the group is not vying for cabinet slots and is struggling to uphold the lofty ideals of the party chief to bring change. That ‘change’, he argues, has not come through.

Mr Alam said that his group had the support of 18 members of the total 30-member cabinet including the ‘un-elected’ president and ‘un-elected’ general secretary. He said that the group had the majority and the Thursday’s meeting was a no-confidence in Mr Swati and Mr Masood.

He said the group had given the party leadership time until June 24 to take remedial measures; otherwise it would have no other recourse but to chart out its future line of action.

PTI provincial senior vice president and MNA, Junaid Akbar Khan, told Dawn that he did not attend the meeting because he had ‘issues’ with the chief minister. He said that he also had ‘issues’ with the way important decisions were being made without taking them into confidence.

“I have problem with the way the president and general secretary were appointed without informing us or taking us into confidence. The decisions are taken first and we are informed later. We came to know about it through television,” Mr Khan said.

Similarly, he said, the party leadership did not take them into confidence while forming the government. “Swati may be a good choice but I have issues with the way he was nominated without taking us into confidence,” he added

PTI provincial general secretary Khalid Masood, when contacted for comment, said that he was in Bannu in connection with the Waziristan IDPs issue and would respond later.

Every now and then somebody pops up for political blackmail. This was inevitable with weak government holding alliances on needs rather than beliefes. I won't be surprised if JI moves in with a blackmail of her own since the political views of both parties have started to diverge post Zarbe-Arb...

At least they have gutts to do it that is because Imran Khan gives them this power other wise try to this PPP or PML N or ANP or MQM you will be thrown out party and in MQM out of this world @Leader @mr42O @Jazzbot

Ever wonder why Imran Khan talks about resigning from assemblies every know and then. He himself knows that he is extremely prone to political blackmail. Its a death either way for him . If he completes his term and there's little to show for to people or he gets out stright away becoming political saheed.

Workers can protest and this will improve the decision making of party if there are any flaws, PTI is open to suggestions and rightful protest of workers and members.

Just imagine if same happened to PMLN, the result would be same as what they did to two poor policemen when the plucked guava from PM house.

I wonder if people understand giving the people their haq means they can protest (right to accept right to reject right to oppose)...Oh wait the govt doesnt recognize the rights of the people...Lahore was an example to that :tsk:

Only the elite "ruling" class can voice out while those who give vote only can voice when they cast votes after that shhhhhhhhh

Its interesting to read Kahniz doing "lepa poti" and trying to spin the argument....The problem is not new which means it wasn't resolved willfully. So the music is on.....Why merit was violated in the first place why it was allowed to prevail consistently? No body would have the answer to this....

KPK government can be drowned in a matter of months....PTI is running a coalition government, its better for political rivals to let it face a natural death. After all, KPK has never seen consecutive tenures ;) Most devastation would be in Karachi where the party has become almost dysfunctional. No body's gonna waste a bullet on a dying man.

What about the violation of merit?

Zanani (Noun): a mindset which makes a person zombie of such sort that he can't even recognize the good bad and worse.
Zanana (Adjective): A PTIish behavior of somebody
Zananipan (Verb): The art of dilly dolling the argument to distract others from main point.

Well i am not surprised bcz of two very important things.

1. PTI may have won majority in KPK but its not a total majority and he needed the support of other parties in the vacinity to make provincial government over there. These are old school parties and will resort to old methods and blackmail to get their way. Its upto imran khan on how to handle such a situation bcz if he wants to come into federation then he may face similar situation on a bigger scale. I will be interested on how he handles it. He must be firm with his authority but at the same time keep their allegiance. Easy? Not a chance bcz this method is not used by any party. The norm over here is too offer a few seats and small time ministries to do muk muka.

2. He is an inexperienced politician who has just come into power. The others know this and will try to use scary de-stablizing methods to get their way. He must once again exert his authority in this and show that he is not weak.

TBH the only way they are actually getting the ability to protest is bcz PTI is the most democratic party out there. It believes in everyones rights and encourages it rather then discouraging it by show of shootings and other terror events. When you have freedom of expression people will express themselves. Its his job to hear their plight and see whether what they say holds any waters or not.

As for the break up of KPK. It's as much possible as the break up of provincial parties of punjab or sindh. Meaning its ridiculous bcz Even though its was not a complete victory in KPK they still hold majority. PTI have their control on ministries and have their chief minister in place which means to remove khattak you need two very strong things.

1. Massive corruption charges that force the federal to move in.
2. 2/3 of the majority in provincial govt says he is not eligible to run.

Lets face it the one is not happening especially with PTI strong against corruption stance. Its the wet dreams of nooners and 2 is not happening either bcz if all alliances are broken and the opposition stands against PTI it still doesnt have the 2/3 majority to remove him. So Break-up of the provincial party is sooo not happening. Infact on top of it all its not like PTI is standing blind like PPP. Its doing work in KPK so thats out too.

This is democratic party not Bashmahe ala PMLN og sorry i meant Badshahe ala
