Two frontline regiments of the Indian Army was today honoured with the President's Standard in recognition of their dedicated service.

Army chief General Dalbir Singh presented the President's Standards' to 50 Armoured Regiment and 84 Armoured Regiment at a function held at Pathankot-based Mamun Military Station, about 250 km from here.

Both the regiments conducted a mounted parade on tanks with clock-work precision and immaculate co-ordination in consonance with the highest traditions of the Indian Army, a defence release said here.

50 Armoured Regiment was raised in 1989 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel (now Brigadier) A K Bhatia (Retired as Brigadier). 84 Armoured Regiment was raised in 1976 under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Tarif Singh Dhiyia (Late), it said.

This honour has been bestowed upon the two regiments in due recognition of their dedicated and meritorious service since their raising, the statement said.

The regiments are among the frontline units of Indian Armoured Corps which have participated in a large number of operations.

"The hard work and sacrifices made by the valiant soldiers of both the Regiments have been recognised by various awards and medals," the release said.

The parade at the Mamun Military Station was commanded by Colonel Vipul Saini, Commandant 84 Armoured Regiment.

On the occasion, the Army Chief also released a "Special Cover" to commemorate the historic event.
