PNS Alamgir sets sail for Pakistan

Why hasn't the PN fitted a missle sys on the Alamgir yet?

Because she doesn't require them for her current assignments?

But F22P is new, will go for next 30to 40 years of service but this US frigate won't go more than 10 years cuz it already completed her lifeterm of 32 years with US so its almost Junk now.Can US give US new frigate for the same price of F-22P? if yes! then its a good deal but for Junks it can't be.......:smokin:
To the extent OHP is intended as gap filler, an interim solution, none of the above matters.

it will need at least 50 to 100 million $$ for upgradation...So why to spend that much money on the old ship if we can buy a new F22P with that amount???......or we shold go for 054A frigates which will be new too....arent we stupid to waste our money on old junks???......:eek:
I'm sure adding a RAM or FL3000N launcher and 2x2 or 2x4 AShM e.g. Harpoon or c-802 don't cost $50-100 million. Maybe $20-30m normal prices. And US items could be obtained with FMS funding (cheap loans) while Chinese items could be obtained at special 'friendship prices'...

I think GENESIS upgrade would be a more suitable option, they are extensively modernized, and have a considerable firepower of 8 cell MK-41s coupled with 8 harpoons.
BTW how much will that cost?

The GENESIS advanced combat management system includes the following characteristics and abilities:
A modern and reliable system
High performance
Open architecture
Capacity of tracking more than 1,000 tactical targets
Modern digital sensor data fusion
Automatic threat evaluation
Weapon engagement opportunities
Link-16/22 system integration

The modernization program also includes:
The addition of an 8-cell Mk-41 VLS for Evolved Sea Sparrow, including the upgrade of the Mk-92 fire control system by Lockheed Martin;
The retrofitting of a new advanced Smart-S Mk2 3D air search radar;
The addition of a new long range sonar

Mk41 alone, with support/maintenance contract probably some US$25m (Turkey paid Lockheed $227m for 6 MK41s for 2 MEKOs and 4 Perrys/Gs plus 2 upgrade kits for another 2 MEKO's)
Thales SMART-S mk2 is probably over US$8 Million per set

Looking at Canada's Halifax class modernization program (C$1.5B for 12 ships > C$125 million = US$124.9 million per ship), don't be surprises if the Turkish modernization works out to at least US$50 and maybe US$100 million per ship. Compare that next to the acquisition cost of Alamgir (US$65 million)

What are the best frigates currently commissioned in PN?

Then I think in around $150 million thats not a bad deal at all. compare it with F-22p which is around $175 million a piece and has quite less firepower. 8x4 essm = 32 which is equal type 054A in terms of no of sam's.
The question here is will US be willing to sell ESSM's PN?

The Perry's were given to ensure particpation of PN in the patrolling of the western apporaches to the Indian Ocean without undermining the war fighting capability of PN viz a viz India.

PN can always upgrade the capability of the boat and use them in the event of a full blown war.

Upgrade program can only take place when atleast three boats are in our hands. This way, PN can negotiate a better deal with whoever becomes the program manager for the upgrade. Therefore, we will have to wait for the finalization of the upgrade suit and the award of contracts etc.

Instead of this PN should only concentrate on getting the 7 P-3Cs and 3 P-3Cs AEW&Cs from U.S with weapons and the rest of the money should be spent on joint training and anti piracy missions. Although the need of frigate should be filled with joint development of Frigates(type-54s), Corvettes and FACs with China along with SSKs.

(is it me or is there something not quite right with this pic: e.g. the hull number, the bow section...?)

Penguin, it might well be a Photoshop edited image. By looking at the image file itself, it was taken by a Nikon D1H camera, and the date the picture was taken showed 9th April 2007, which meant the frigate should still be in service with the US navy.

Even if the date settings on the camera were fiddled with, then there was a photo on 18 August 2011 showed there was no phalanx CIWS installed at the back atop the helicopter hangar.

Most navy ships have these, this is hardly impressive especially for a frigate. It seems this deal came with many "strings attached" and one of them was the removal of most offensive/defensive firepower leaving the ship relatively useless not to mention the ship is already well past its usable age. The fact PN PAID to have equipment REMOVED is ridiculous and if I was a Pakistani I'd be very unhappy with whoever made this descion.
