There's a saying in China: "上有天堂下有苏杭" loosely translated: "There's a paradise above the sky and a SuHang below". SuHang in this case means Suzhou and Hangzhou, in the heart of Jiangnan region, which give you an idea how beautiful and rich these lands are. Aside from the historical culture aspects of the place it also famous for amazing waterways, mountains and rich soils. The land of fishes and rice- "鱼米之乡'' is aptly put. Sorry Bro, I think the sites fool me by letting me displace the pictures for a day and then take them away. Just happens I love those pictures and too bad I can't edict them after 24 hours. Sorry again.

Han people 汉族 - Oversea Chinese 海外华人

Oversea Chinese 海外华人
are people of Chinese birth or descent who live outside Greater China (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau). A person may self-identify or be identified by others as an overseas Chinese person based on any of several criteria, such as a direct lineal descent from groups originating from China, retention of Chinese cultural practices, self-identity with Chinese culture, or acknowledgement of a Chinese origin. In Chinese language there are various terms for the English term 'Oversea Chinese', such as: Huaqiao 华侨, Huayi 华裔 or 海外华人. Both Hakka and Hokkien called themselves 番客 sometime. Most Oversea Chinese refer to themselves as 唐人 (people of Tang) or to a lesser degree 华人 (people of Hua). Cross-border ethnic groups 跨境民族, like the Kachin (Va) and the Wa (Jingpo) in Myanmar, are not considered Overseas Chinese minorities unless they left China after the establishment of an independent state on China's border.

Although there were oversea migrations through many centuries but the actual substantial migrations began at the "age of colonialism" in the 19th Century. Wide spread famines at home coupled with the need of indenture workers by the colonial powers encouraged many able bodied young men from the southern coastal regions to seek opportunities far away from homes. Prior the 21th century most immigrants are from the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian, speakers of Cantonese (primarily Taishanese), Minnan (plus the Teochow variant) and Hakka.

There are over 50 million Oversea Han, or Oversea Chinese, around the world with about 30 million live in Southeast Asia. In term of percentage to the host country Singapore has the largest (74%), Malaysia 25%, Thailand 14%, Philippines (?), Indonesia 3.8%, Peru 4.3%, Canada 3.7%, New Zealand 3.7% and Australia 3.5%. In terms of numbers Indonesia has the most with 8.8 million, Thailand 9.4 million, Malaysia 7 million, Singapore 3.7 million, United State 3.8 million, Canada 1.4 million, Peru 1.3 million, Vietnam 1.3 million, Australia 1.2 million, Cambodia 1.2 million, Philippines 1.2 million(?), Myanmar 1.1 million, Russia 1 million, Africa 750,000 France 700,000, South Korea 700,000, Japan 660,000, UK 500,000, Venezuela 400,000 and South Africa 350,000 ....etc.

In the early 60s Mr Mui from Taishan rented this little store for $64 a month in Brooklyn New York and open a hand laundry for white shirts only. Everyone in those days wore a suit, a white shirt, a tie and a fedora. He hand-washed, starched, backyard-dried, ironed, folded and packed each shirt for 10 cents a piece.

There are probably more than tens of thousands of Chinese associations, Kongsi or Tongs as some called them, spread across the globe. The associations are usually localized and people from every region in China have their own gathering place: to hear news from home region, to help each other on the foreign land and for social events.
