ISLAMABAD - Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) would start replacing some of its fleet and revamp the present planes as well as evaluate the existing routes and would open new destinations by expanding its network.
It was stated by Lt Gen (R) Asif Yasin Malik, Chairman, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) while addressing the business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI). Senator Mohsin Gilani, General(R) Ali Abbas, Faisal Mushtaq and Agha Ali Akhtar Pathan were also present on the occasion.
He said that 54% of PIA’s revenue was spent on fuel consumption while 12%-14% was the establishment cost, however, PIA is operating profit since October 2012 as well as its share in stock exchange market has increased by 26% due to efficient monitoring system. He said that 12 plane are been taken on lease because of higher average fleet of existing planes. Lt.Gen. (retd) Asif Yasin Malik further informed that under the PIA Revival Plan each operational area and department is under study and soon major decisions would be in place to obtain greater potential needed for the turnaround of the airline. Wrong aircraft for the wrong destination was the main reason of incurring losses but PIA would have a new look by April-2015, Chairman added.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr.Zafar Bakhtawari, President ICCI Pakistan International Airlines should reduce its fuel cost through fuel efficiencies, capacity/route rationalization and deployment of suitable aircrafts for the routes and passenger load, proper maintenance.
He said that most of the economic issues of our economy would be solved if department of PIA would start working efficiently as PIA losses had increased to Rs.150 billion while Rs.600billion were the accumulated losses of other Public Sector enterprises that were more than our defense budget of Rs.545billion which need to be monitor by adopting good governance.
ICCI President said that PIA should conduct a study to increase its destinations and initiate direct flights to those destinations which are potential market for Pakistani products that would ultimately help our country to get rid of isolation.

thts really gud hope it will again become one of the best airlines in the world like it was in 60s & 70s this is PIA who made Emirates airline.

PIA MADE EMIRATES. and now look at the state of PIA! let us not forget in 2008 zardari restored all personnel fired in 1996 and gave them bonuses and salaries from 1996 till 2008! how can PIA ever improve with such corrupt leaders at the helm! same goes for our train systems!

PIA made emirates ? Where did that came from :woot:

Emirates started with just USD 10 million and two air crafts acquired on wet lease basis from PIA and also the inaugural flight was to Karachi as well

Definition of wet lease:

A wet lease is a leasing arrangement whereby one airline (lessor) provides an aircraft, complete crew, maintenance, and insurance (ACMI) to another airline (lessee), which pays by hours operated. The lessee provides fuel and covers airport fees, and any other duties, taxes, etc. The flight uses the flight number of the lessee. A wet lease generally lasts one month to two years

PIA supported emirates at the time of need .
PIA didnt made emirates airline .
Their hard workers and the management made emirated what it is today .

but never mind you can keep hating. in the 80s with India being communist friendly. Karachi airport
was an example of modern day dubai airport!

History of PIA - Pakistan International Airlines

PIA model was copied by all back then until PIA became corrupt!

pia managed the business affairs of emirates in first few years

It thrived latter on with money pouring in from UAE government

Emirates went on from 2 leased planes to 140 planes fleet , with all planes no older then 7 years old
with aim to add aother 70 brand new planes

While PIA is stuck at 38 planes mentalility

Emrates wi lead by CEO and management group that understands world market , Pakistan is being lead by Retired airforce or Military , their strong point is not Business Management.

Civilians in PIA fail as they start hiring political people , and non civilians fail as they not have a technical background in marketing and promotions.

140 planes vs 38 that is reality

And we can only hope that after elections things change

PIA simply got planes that have old engines these enginese consumer more fuel , their biggest losses are in Fuel sector 42-60% hower Pakistani courts have doubted the figures as other airlines are not effected by the same fuel prices , which points to some shady business

This is the story of our country , 50's we formed , first generation did wonders with less reosources they had planning untill late 60's we were toast of continent ONCE the generation went away that got us Pakistan we have been stuck in world of fuedal lords and their children

It was during that time that our people enjoyed , success , respect and honor

Things changed around 65 on ward 70's as the power elements in the country started to get
destroyed by corruption

75-88 was the period MOST damage was done to country all the , MEGA projects stopped in Pakistan , bombings started in 80's in Sindh and to this day that continues

Universities lost their budget
Teacher qualities failed
Education standards flattered
Cheating became norm in board exams
This created white elephants and when these white elephants got in to Government companies
It results in the collasal failiures that we see now .. before us

hmmm......interesting views by the members !!
Q -: How did PIA managed to stay sooo far behind ?
It could have been something much bigger than the emirates today .

Why dont we sell PIA its cancer to funds and economy, mismanagment, corruption before we get any accident
Its better to privitise and just regulate, govt. will save money from loses and can earn revenues in licences, permits etc
These funds we can use for hospitals, schools, development and for orphans

i see alot of hope and Potential in PIA and im pretty sure it can compete Emirates (in terms of quality, perhaps not quantity) and soon it can have a better position in the market......
they need to revive PIA..................
our brand new airport (islamabad airport) can accommodate A380s now so perhaps later lease 2-4 A380s from emirates if possible.... We gave them a start, im sure they will also help us out :victory:

it may not be possible to purchase aircraft's this very moment but they can start off by providing a better service .....
and once renowned start advertising :cheesy:

BB's tasweer will be on the Vertical Fin and will be written Khape Pakistan Airline

When your ambition is limited to being a tiny Airliens then you will stay tiny

Emirates had ambition they had AGRESSION

Agression = Survival = Lesson of Life

The world is not for Timid

Under Normal Cirmumstances PIA should have had 100 planes and First of Boeing and Airbus orders should have been ordered by PIA but they lost track of their vision
