It was a closely contested only in the opinion polls. On election day all the pan-blues came out to beat down the greens. Truth is many of those pan-blues don't want much to do with mainland China, but they don't want a vote for war, so they are determined to beat down the greens. And in the end, Taiwan spoke: we are a little bit afraid of mainland China, so we're ready for peace.

And the pro-independence forces have no chance in 2016 or afterwards, because China will be way too powerful then with our J-20 already in service and multiple aircraft carriers. It would just make Taiwanese more "respectful" of our interests. Our 2009 parade already made our point clear to the Taiwanese what their risks are.

China passed the U.S. to become the world’s largest smartphone market by volume in the third quarter as the devices became cheaper and more widely available, research firm Strategy Analytics said.

Shipments in China reached a record 23.9 million units, up 58 percent from the second quarter, the Boston-based research firm said in a statement. That compares with a 7 percent drop to 23.3 million units in the U.S.

China has become the world's largest smartphone market by volume after it overtook the US in the third quarter.

Smartphone shipments to China rose to a record 24m during the period, compared with 23m for the US, according to research done by Strategy Analytics.

China in Smartphone Lead

STOCKHOLM—China overtook the U.S. as the world's largest smartphone market by volume in the third quarter, according to a report by research firm Strategy Analytics.

Deliveries of smart phones to operators and retailers in China grew 58% in the third quarter from the previous quarter to 24 million units. That surpassed 23 million units delivered to the U.S. market, down 7% from the previous quarter, according to the report.
