LAHORE - Three prominent leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) – former law minister Iftikhar Hussain Gilani, former MPA Iftikharuddin Khattak and PTI UK coordinator Rabia Zia – left the party on Friday
Gilani and Khattak later met PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence, and pledged allegiance to him.
“We have full trust in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif,” they said at a press conference later.
Meanwhile, Rabia Zia, the UK coordinator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, resigned from the party over alleged manipulation and rigging in PTI UK elections as well as disappointment over the party’s alleged deviation from its ideology.
Following are the excerpts from her resignation letter:
“It is with great sorrow that I am resigning from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf [PTI]. PTI is the first political party that I joined some five years ago with the belief that Imran Khan through PTI will change Pakistan by implementing rule of law, meritocracy, accountability, transparency, democracy and justice.
I was sure that PTI would bring the rule of law to Pakistan and I shared this message of hope with the common man and… I am proud to say that we made PTI a household name in the UK. The lawlessness in the party is demoralising to the extent that I am now unconvinced that PTI can deliver what it has been promising.”

as i said, there is no difference between PMLN and PTI, both are the two sides of the same coin

ISLAMABAD - Former law minister and senior jurist Syed Iftikhar Hussain Gilani and former lawmaker Iftikharuddin Khattak have quit the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf (PTI) to join the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), which warmly welcomed them to its folds.
Both were central leaders of the PTI and Gilani has been the Senior Vice-President of the party.

They called on PML-N president Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence and announced the decision to join his party.

Gilani, a Kohat-based lawyer-cum-politician, had served as minister in Benazir Bhutto’s first Cabinet and he was unhappy over Benazir’s joining the hands with the then bureaucrat-turned-president Ghulam Ishaq Khan, though he continued to be a great admirer of Banazir.

He later joined the PML led by Nawaz Sharif but then again mover back to the PPP ranks and remained with that party until 2002, when he developed differences with Benazir over the award of party tickets for the election.

Gilani remained relatively inactive till he joined the PTI in December last year — but now he says he could not reconcile with Imran Khan’s policies on various issues.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Pir Sabir Shah, Mehtab Abbasi, Pervez Rashid and Amir Muqam were present on the occasion of joining of Gilani and Khattak.

Gilani said that only Nawaz could steer the country out of current crisis.

Meanwhile, former minister in the PML-Q Cabinet, Rana Shamshad Khan called on Sharif at Raiwind and announced his joining the PML-N. The PML-N president welcomed Rana in the party who expressed confidence in leadership of Sharif.

Gilani, Khattak quit PTI,
join PML-N

SORY guys its nothing new, it had happened before to the father figure of PTI!
Activism in national politics
During Bhutto's rule from 1971 to 1977, Air Marshal Asghar Khan played a major role in opposition to Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.[13] During the 1977 elections, Asghar Khan allied his party, the Tehreek-i-Istiqlal with the Pakistan National Alliance (PNA) against the People's Party. It was during this period he and his party faced frequent attacks by Pakistan Peoples Party supporters and from the brutal paramilitary Federal Security Force. He was imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat and Sahiwal prisons from March to June 1977.
He contested two seats, one from Karachi and the other from Abbotabad, despite alleged rigging by the ppp, Asghar Khan was elected by a huge margin from both seats. The PNA rejected the election results as rigged and launched a Nationwide agitation against the results. Asghar Khan resigned from both National Assembly seats as a mark of protest against massive rigging in the elections.
Supporting the Martial law
While imprisoned, Asghar Khan wrote a much criticized letter to the leadership of Defence Forces, asking them to renounce their support for the "Illegal regime of Bhutto", and asked the military leadership to "differentiate between a "lawful and an unlawful" command... and save Pakistan.".[14] This letter is considered by the historians as instrumental in encouraging the advent of the far-right Zia regime.[14] However in television show, Asghar Khan strongly defended his letter as according to him "nowhere in the letter had he asked for the military to take over", and he had written it in response to a news story that he had read in which a Major had shot a civilian showing him the "V sign".[14] After the overthrow of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto's government by the Army in the summer of 1978, Asghar Khan was offered a cabinet post by General Zia-ul-Haq, Asghar Khan refused to join the cabinet and also withdrew from the PNA after a growing split between the various parties.[14]
[edit]Calling for Bhutto's death sentence
Asghar Khan remained a vital player against the democratic government of prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Asghar Khan is also thought to be the main actor behind the mass movement which culminated in the hanging of Pakistan Peoples Party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.[13] Asghar Khan was one of the top leaders and leading advocates calling for Bhutto's death sentence.[13] He is also accused of writing a letter to the leadership of Pakistan Armed Forces for staging the coup against Bhutto and urging the military leadership to announce the death sentence of Bhutto.[13]
[edit]Political activism
After successfully calling for Bhutto's "judicial murder", Asghar Khan decided to take on the far-right regime of General Zia-ul-Haq who announced to hold the general elections in 1979. The Independence Movement became the most favorite party and benefited with large number of high profile civilian political figures including Navaz Sharif, Khurshid Kasur, Aitzaz Ahsan, Rashid Ahmad, Javed Hashmi, Akbar Bugti, Mushahid Hussain, Nadir Pervez, Gohar Ayub Khan, Zafar Ali Shah, Ahmed Raza Kasuri, Sher Afgan Niazi, Manzoor Wattoo, Syeda Abida Hussain, Syed Fakhar Imam and many others.[15] All of these members left Asghar Khan under Navaz Sharif who founded the largest conservative party, the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
However, at the last moment, General Zia-ul-Haq indefinitely postponed the elections, ordering the arrests of Asghar Khan who remained under house arrest for more than five years.[15] In 1983, Asghar Khan decided to join the left-wing alliance, the Movement for Restoration of Democracy (MRD) led by Benazir Bhutto but he was detained by the government.[15] He was kept under house arrest at his Abbotabad residence from 16 October 1979 to 2 October 1984 and was named a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International.[16]
Public disapproval and declining
In 1986, Asghar Khan left the MRD, as a result of which many of the Tehrik's members resigned in protest.[15] Asghar Khan boycotted the non-partisan elections held in 1985. However, Asghar Khan and his party took full part in 1988 parliamentary elections. But this time, he was accused by Pakistan Peoples Party for having called for Bhutto's death sentence and the martial law, which Asghar Khan himself failed to justify.[15] His party members disintegrated and allied with conservative Nawaz Sharif, a major set back for his career. Asghar Khan's public rating plummeted and faced a complete annihilation and defeat in 1988 elections.[15] He conceded his defeat but again contested in 1990 parliamentary elections from Lahore, Asghar Khan once again faced defeat.[15] Briefly retiring from active politics in the late 1990s his party faced another one of its many splits. Since 1990, Asghar Khan has not held a significant position in politics.[13]
[edit]Collapse and merging with Pakistan Movement for Justice
As he grew older, he handed over his small party to his equally capable son Omar Asghar Khan, who had for a while joined the military government of General Pervaiz Musharraf, and became minister of Ministry of Environment (MoE).
After his son's resignation from the cabinet, Umar Asghar Khan took over Independence Movement and subsequently merged it with assorted other Non-governmental organization and formed a new party called National Democratic Party, an event which caused another split in the party. Both Independence Movement and National Democratic Party suffered major shock and setback when Omar Asghar Khan was murdered in Karachi on 25 June 2001 prior to the elections. An inquiry into his death was ordered by the Sindh High Court and in spite of repeated requests, it was never started.
In a historic press conference on 12 December, Asghar Khan announced his full support to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Imran Khan.[17] He praised Imran Khan for his struggle and endorsed him as the only hope left for the survival of Pakistan.[17] This endorsement came at a crucial time for Imran Khan, when many tainted politicians were joining his party.[17] After announcing his party's support for PTI, Asghar Khan resigned as President of Tehreek-e-Istiqlal and left the future of his party in the hands of his workers. Contrary to many media reports, Asghar Khan never joined PTI.[18]

Lahore

With a history of joining and then leaving all political parties, the Pakistan-Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) former vice-president Syed Iftikhar Gilani has landed in the PML-N fold again and made the announcement to join the party during his meeting with Nawaz Sharif in Raiwind on Friday.

Besides Nawaz Sharif, senior PML-N leaders, including Shahbaz Sharif, Sardar Mehtab, Pir Sabir Shah and Ameer Muqam were also present, when Iftikhar Gilani announced joining the party. Former PPP law minister Iftikhar Gilani, belonging to Kohat, is ranked among those politicians in Pakistan who have been almost in every leading political party. He started his political career in 1970 when he contested polls as an independent candidate from Kohat and, afterwards, he joined the PPP. He was made the federal law minister in the cabinet of Benazir Bhutto in 1988.

He joined PML-N in 1993 and was elected an MNA after defeating incumbent KPK governor Masood Kasur contesting elections the PPP ticket. He joined ANP during the end of Nawaz tenure. Afterwards, he joined the PML-Q. Quite recently, in 2010, he again joined the PTI.

Now, after having been in all political parties, he has finally again joined hands with the PM Insiders claimed that he had joined PML-N on the behest of Ameer Muqam as they both had been part of the PML-Q during Musharraf tenure.

Another PTI leader and former MPA Iftikhar-ud-Din also announced joining the PML-N in the same meeting. Nawaz Sharif welcomed the entry of both these leaders in the party and stated that their joining the PML-N would strengthen the party in the KPK. Iftikhar Gilani was of the view that it was only Nawaz Sharif who could steer the country out of prevailing crises. Prominent among those politicians who remained in all leading political parties from the KPP included Khawaja Hoti who was in PPP, ANP, PML-N, and PTI and finally he joined JUI (F). Another PML-N politician from KPK Arbab Khizar Hayat has also been part of PTI, ANP, PPP, PML-N, PPP and finally again in PML-N. It is worth mentioning that PML-N is in the phase of making and breaking in the KPK where some of its old stalwarts have almost rebelled against the party and are in contact with PML-Q. Quite prominent among them are: Abdus Subhan, Shujjat Ali Khan and Sar Anjam Khan. They are contacted by PML-Q KPK President Qasim Shah and they have given him hope that they will decide their political career immediately after Eid.

The insiders claimed that they were annoyed with the party leadership for ignoring them and accommodating the new entrants from PML-Q, like Ameer Muqam, at their cost.

Nevertheless, Ameer Muqam, while talking with The News, claimed that most of the politicians leaving PML-N did not have the worth to win even Union Council election, not to speak of winning upcoming national or provincial assembly polls.

It merits mentioning here that Ameer Muqam got accommodated a number of his colleagues who have left PML-Q with him and joined the PML-N.

Meanwhile, former PML-Q Minister Rana Shamshad from Gujranwala also announced joining the PML-N after expressing complete faith in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. He made this announcement during his meeting with Nawaz Sharif in Raiwind.

Likewise, Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting with PML-N leaders Raees Munir, Makhdum Ahmed Anwer Aalam and Ch Jaffar Iqbal. During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif urged them to start preparing for elections, hoping that the people of Pakistan would reject fake politicians and elect PML-N for the better future of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Muslim Conference Kashmir chairman Professor Abdul Ghani Bhutt and General Secretary People’s Conference Jammu Kashmir Khalil Ahmed Khalil also met Nawaz Sharif in Raiwind and discussed issues of mutual concern.

Well, PTI has become a sinking ship , lovers of IK don't like to even hear it, they just think in a society of lords the dam change has arrived ?
But wht they don't know is the voting population in pakistan is mostly from the areas where only lords & peoples with big names get elected?

^^ Atleast we will try... no matter what, again and again... wont give up on Pakistan that we can establish through visionary Imran Khan...

Do you think the battle for a better Pakistan is not worth fighting for?

I think PTI and PML-N need to form a coalition. They have been taking each other's people and so it is making it seem like there is something in common. Even if that is not the case, then in anyways it would be good for the sake of this country to have unity and common purposes maybe like saving Pakistan. At the end of the day, what are these two leg pulling for? Its power in Punjab isn't it? I'm not a fan of any guy, but the fact is Nawaz Sharif offered Imran Khan a handshake on many many occasions.

its good. i would say more should leave, lets see if pakistanis can change pakistan. i was always of the view that this election is not for PTI, may be next time PTI gets majority but not this time. let people try Nawaz again. logon ku aqal nai ai ab tk.

As Chaudhary Shujaat said; Imran Khan Ko Siyasatdano Ke Taat Aor Nakhray Utaana Nahi Aatay.

More will leave in the near days when Intra-party elections have taken it's full swing.

We stand by Imran Khan not these Gilani shilanies...

Tomorrow if I appear before God, I can proudly say, "I tried my best in supporting a cause for a better and prosperous Pakistan.''
