Role and Tasks

Border Security Duties. Defend Eastern Border with India in Sindh province, approximately 912 kilometres.

Internal Security Duties. Provide backup support to Sindh Police in maintenance of law and order in the province.

Border Related Tasks

Perform Border Security duties on the Eastern Border in the Province of Sindh.During war, fall under command Army for operational employment and rear area security duties.Assist Civil Administration for Internal Security duties within Sindh boundary.Protection of persons and property in border area.Apprehension of persons, unlawfully entering into or going out of Pakistani territory through International Border.Collection of intelligence in border area.Assist / coordination with Police and other civil agencies in prevention and checking of smuggling.

Internal Security Tasks. Following tasks have been assigned by the Home Department Government of Sindh vide their notification of September 2009:-

Patrolling of Indus and National Highways in cases of extreme emergencies.

For all large scale search and sweep operations, Pakistan Rangers(Sindh) will provide support to Police

Deployment for manning of protective bunds on Indus River and Katcha areas in the gaps where Police Force is thin and needs backup support.

Deployment shall be brief and in exceptional cases stationary picquets would be established.

Areas in the hilly Ranges where Police Force is not deployed, Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) will take over and fill in the gaps.

Remain available as a backup support force to Police for maintenance of law and order and takeover situation where it warrants presence of well trained force.

Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) may establish some of the picquets on roof tops and on ground, if required. Certain areas can be allocated to Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) for this purpose.

Patrolling on selected roads to assist Police in maintenance of law and order.

Protection of selected high values installations including major Hospitals, Educational Institutions and Foreign installations / Consulates.

Provide support to Police during religious / mega events.

Force will have its own independent intelligence network and on specific information, it will conduct independent operations.

Local Command of the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) will closely coordinate with the concerned District Administration and Police officials.

Recruitments

Recruitment is carried out according to the following standards laid down in Pakistan Rangers Recruitment Rules 1968. No waiver / relaxation in the medical, education, height and age standard is given :-

Physical Standards for Civilian (Male)

Age-18 to 30 years (All Ranks)Minimum Height5'-6"Minimum Chest-33" with 11/2 " expansionWeight-Not less than 121 lbs. No over weight candidate will be enlisted.

Physical Standards for Ex Servicemen (Male)

Age Sub Inspector-45 Years Havildar / Naik-40 Years Sepoy-35 yearsMinimum Height-5'-6"Minimum Chest-33" with 11/2" expansionWeight-Not less than 121 lbs. No over weight candidate will be enlisted.

Physical Standards for Civilian (Female)

Age-18 to 30 years (All Ranks)Minimum Height-5'-3"Weight-As per medical rules. No overweight candidates will be enlistedMarital Status-Unmarried (No permission of marriage will be granted during training period)

Education Standards for Civilian

Sub Inspector-FA / FSc or equivalent Higher qualifications will be preferred.Religious Teacher-

Farigh / Fazil Darse Nizami from one of the recognized Religious Institution and MA/ MSc.

Havildar / Naik GD-MatricSepoy GD-8th ClassSepoy Cook & Misalchi-8th ClassNote

Preference will be given to women having technical education / aptitude i.e. 3 years diploma in nursing with experience in recognized institution / hospital, B.Ed/M.Ed, LLB and AUTOCAD, Computer Diploma (Software / hardware) and vocational courses etc.

Minimum Education Standard for Ex Servicemen

Sub Inspector-Matric or AEC-1, MR-I & Eng-IIHavildar / Naik GD-Matric or AEC-II, MR-II & Eng-IIISepoy GD, Sepoy Cook & Misalchi-8th Class or AEC-II & MR-III

In-eligibility.In-eligibility criteria of an individual is as under:-

Removal / dismissal from any Government department or Rangers on ground of discipline.Convicted from any Court of Law.Previously declared medical unfit from Rangers or any other Government department.Removed / dismissed / dispensed with services from Rangers in case of bogus / forged certificates.Retired / discharged from Rangers at own request.Difference / variation in date of birth mentioned in Computerized National Identity Card and Education Certificate.

No data abt Inspectors and above rank officers discussed. As Graduates perhaps inducted as Inspectors equivalent to Lt rank of Army and Rangers officers may reach so far up to Rank eq to LT Col.

In current situation Rangers should be provided some sort of Air defense especially of mobile nature i.e Manpads installed on some light armored vehicles or AAA gums installed on wheeled APCS. Along with some anti amour ammo.
Some sort of SSG type training has already been going on in Rangers which is quite good in at least slowing up of enemy advance and for counter terrorism roles.
