]Pakistan first time bags seven IT awards in Malaysia

By our correspondent

KARACHI: Pakistan, for the first time in history, has won seven accolades at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) awards ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, a statement said on Saturday.
“The Pakistani team had seven reasons to smile,
” said Jehan Ara, President of Pakistan Software Houses Association (PASHA), in the statement at the end of the four-day award ceremony in the Malaysian capital.

Former Malaysia prime minister, Dr. Mahatir Mohammed, was the chief guest at the event and the recipient of the first ever APICTA lifetime achievement award.

The APICTA awards is an international awards program, which aims to increase information and communication technology (ICT) awareness in the community and assist in bridging the digital divide. Each year APICTA recognises the best in innovation from across the Asia Pacific ICT community.

According to PASHA statement, the Pakistani delegation picked up seven merit awards (the APICTA Silver equivalent), including runners up awards in six sections out of sixteen. The categories were security applications, e-inclusion and e-community, financial applications, communications, e-government and e-health.

“We have been making our presence felt in the last three years, but this is the first year in the history of the APICTA awards as Pakistan name was called seven times across six diverse categories,” Jehan Ara said.

She termed the awards an acknowledgment of the hard work of Pakistani technology companies.
The firms have been doing great work for customers back in Pakistan and globally as well, which has been acclaimed by an international panel of judges, she added.
Badar Khushnood, the Pakistan Google Country Consultant, who also took the role of an APICTA Judge this year, hailed the prowess of Pakistani IT companies.

Congratulations!

Winners at the 10th International Asia Pacific ICT Awards APICTA 2010

Can anyone share which Pakistani Companies participated and the solution that were nominated (was nice to see that nomination was for e-health and e-governance). Has such solutions been fully functional in regional state government's? (We have bits and pieces of it implemented in States like AP and Gujarat).

well done well done...Pakistani companies are excelling in e-banking and security arenas due to large middle east market and potential investment we have got at our disposal.

Great news!
really glad to hear that
