Updated at: 1921 PST, Thursday, March 05, 2009
Pak to be made leading shipbuilding country in region: Jatoi KARACHI: Concerted efforts would ensure that Pakistan becomes a leading shipbuilding country in the region in line with its potential and ideal location.

This was stated by the Federal Minister for Defence production, Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi here on Thursday.

He was speaking as chief guest at the `Steel-cutting ceremony' of the fourth F22P Frigate at the Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KWSB).

The Minister congratulated those associated with the KSEW for the achievement of this important milestone and appreciated the naval architects, engineers and workers involved to accomplish the prestigious work. He hoped that with speedy pace of construction work, this vessel will join Pakistan navy much earlier that the scheduled time.

Jatoi deeply appreciated the technical and material assistance support from our time-tested, reliable friend China and sit shipbuilding especially the China State Shipbuilding Corporation and China Shipbuilding Trading Company for the construction of the fourth
F22P Frigate at KWSB.

He said that the KWSB is a key organization for supporting Pakistan Navy Fleet in building Navy ships and essential repair works.

The minister further pointed out that today's event is also the continuation of their long lasting commitment with Pakistan Navy and the nation. He also pointed out that he and the Ministry would fully support the great vision for the new shipyards and the development of shipbuilding industry.

Good News for PN indeed. Alhumdulillah we are Making a Good progress and we have Submarine, Frigate and Corvette Building Facilities now in Place in our own Country.

Can anyone please post the pics of this ceremony.

Our focus should be on high speed autonomous target seeking and destroying torpedoes , perhaps a modified Babur cruise missile, a fire and forget hunter seeker air or ground launched torpedo to prowl the seas at time of conflict.

7 saal puraana thread dubaara zinda karne par aapko milta hay Q-mobile.

It seems the Bhutoo islamic socialism did not work for Pakistani ship building and the entire industry went to South Korea..

So 7 years later we are still holding 'steel cutting ceremonies', but instead of Frigate it is FAC. At this rate in the future there may be 'paper cutting ceremony' for toy boats we can race in tubs.

We need to ask the question whether we are really increasing capability or just 'reassembling kits'.

We have not maintained a steady production of meaningful ships and assets since we aquired the Agosta Sub , alleged Transfer of technology. Not a single more submarine was made in Pakistan

Same with F22P frigate

We just don't have a capacity or mind set to have certain production goals to keep the production lines operational

While it is true the Engineers may have developed awesome stealth boats or the tanker etc but there is no serial production goals for the technology we aquire on a year to year basis

We are still reliant on buying our subs and ships from foreign vendors.
