The Pak-China strategic dialogue that concluded in Beijing on Friday resolved to enhance the already existing multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.
That was rightly considered the most appropriate response to the prevailing international geopolitical situation. Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani, who led the Pakistan delegation, said that a strong strategic cooperation with China was a cornerstone of Islamabad’s foreign policy, a view put across differently by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying, who felt that the two countries shared the same concerns on a host of regional and global issues. Be that the desire to see a quick return of peace and stability to Afghanistan, to set the Middle East’s disturbed situation right, or to effect reforms at the UN Security Council, China and Pakistan were on the same page, she said.

A glance at the history of Pak-China relations beginning 1951 to date would prove the oft-repeated point that despite the changes in the global and internal scenarios that occurred from time to time these relations have continued to flourish. Mr Jilani, therefore, was justified in hoping that the new leadership, shortly to be inducted in office in Beijing, would keep up the momentum of growth. He might as well have stated that Pakistan’s new leadership that would assume power following the general elections due to be held soon would be equally enthusiastic in further strengthening these ties. Beijing’s assistance to Pakistan has been free of strings, timely and in fields that are vital to our sovereignty and, indeed, survival, reinforcing the confidence that China is a genuine friend that Pakistan can ill afford to lose.

The Heavy Mechanical Complex, the Kamra Rebuild Factory, the Karakorum Highway, the Chashma power plant and the Gwadar seaport are a few among a host of other projects it has helped build here and that constitute a monument to the strength of that relationship. The feelings of friendship have been sustained as both have felt that their stands on the various issues confronting them and the world as a whole were based on sound moral principles. And frequent exchange of visits between the two countries when common aspirations and goals as well common apprehensions and dangers come up for discussion have put that equation on a solid footing. The report that the newly tested landmark achievement of China in the defence field – the J-31 stealth fighter – would be exported to Pakistan when it comes on line says a lot in that context.

Whatever other factors, the recently developed US-India nexus against China and the US designs for India to play a major post-withdrawal role in Afghanistan would prove to be another potent reason for the two countries to come closer to each other.

Pak-China expanding ties | The Nation

Pakistan & China needs to stay close to each other. Pakistan must stay 100% committed with China. Only China & Turkey can help Pakistan built for a better & secure future.

I remember in the time Gen. Musharraf rule there was lot of Chinese influence in the country but today thanks this so called democratic corrupt & evil PPP there is only US influence in the country, which is dangerous for Pakistan.

Time for China and Pakistan to have joint military bases here

mention of J-31 good. And we should have a naval base at Gawader.

No, thanks to ANY foreign boots on Pakistani soil even if those boots are as friendly as Chinese. Its a bad idea, why would we want to have foreign military bases in Pakistan when we effectively can defend ourselves are not under a surrender treaty and are not at war. I, do however wish to see PLN rotating off Gawadar regularly and PLAAF and PLA conducing joint training exercises with Pakistan military.

There is not going to be much expansion in China's economic ties with Pakistan. After the recent snub by the Chinese which blamed terror training centers in Pakistan for Muslim insurgency in Western part of China. Only recently China snubbed Pakistan again after Osma Bin Laden discovery and US raid to Abottabad, Pakistan wished for China's sympathy. It did not come.

Last year when Pakistani President sent multiple delegations to secure some money to tide over economic catastrophe when Pakistan blocked NATO supply line to Afghanistan, China clearly said that China never gives any cash to fix budgetary problems. Chinese aid is always to specific project and project only. Only then Pakistan began hastily talking to US to re-open the supply line and begin getting cash assistance.

For outer appearances China is a great all weather friend of Pakistan. But truly Pakistan is no longer on the Chinese radar.

So if you are dreaming of expanding ties between Pak and China, then stop dreaming.

What snub would you be referring to ? China requested to keep a check on militants and assist in anti-terrorism operations and intelligence sharing , Islamabad complied and extradited several suspected militants and later even the Xinjiang officials denied any significant foreign involvement , only the Indian media raised a small incident in the Chinese town to disproportionate levels , nothing better that I expect from them ...

The country which has provided critical technological assistance in all fields incl Nuclear to Pakistan , the one which has been vocal for us in UNSC and the world arena always , the one which invests money in infrastructure , the one which provides weapons with ToT and without any strings attached , the one which has always sent material help in times of war is a friend of Pakistan in outer appearances ? ...

China-Pakistan ties will keep expanding , revival of old Silk route and trade via Gwadar falls on the top most priority list for Beijing because once its done , some countries in the world can kiss good bye to their dreams of stopping Chinese supplies so Islamabad isn't going any far from CCP's radar ...

Or it so happens that you have been watching the Indian media for a very long time ? :azn:
