NEW YORK — A federal judge has signed a default judgment finding Iran, the Taliban and al-Qaida liable in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Judge George Daniels in Manhattan signed the judgment Thursday, a week after hearing testimony in the 10-year-old case. The signed ruling, which he promised last week, came in a $100 billion lawsuit brought by family members of victims of the attacks. He directed a magistrate judge to preside over remaining issues, including fixing compensatory and punitive damages.

Daniels signed findings of fact saying the plaintiffs had established that the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks were caused by the support the defendants provided to al-Qaida. The findings also said Iran continues to provide material support and resources to al-Qaida by providing a safe haven for al-Qaida leadership and rank-and-file al-Qaida members.

During last week’s open-court hearing, family members of Sept. 11 victims sat through a four-hour presentation from attorneys who cited evidence supporting their claims that Iran actively assisted the hijackers of planes that crashed into the World Trade Center towers, at the Pentagon and into a field in Pennsylvania. Former members of the 9/11 Commission and three Iranian defectors also spoke.

It would be near impossible to collect any damages, especially from the Taliban or al-Qaida.

Iran has not commented on the ruling. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has repeatedly denied any Iranian connection in the Sept. 11 attacks or with al-Qaida. Saudi Arabia had been knocked out of the lawsuit, but lawyers filed papers on Thursday to reinstate Saudi Arabia as a defendant.

Lawyers for the plaintiffs did not immediately return telephone calls seeking comment.

this has got to be the most ridicolous statement ever..after failure in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is now time to connect Iran with it....every one can smell the conspiracy here..and goes one step ahead to prove that americans dont really know jacksh_t about middle eastern demographics..how can a sunni extremist outfit like AQ be on friendly term with the only 12er shia country in the world whom they have declared as their staunch enemy?

Where did all the tall claims go about Saudi links and Saddam financing??

The reality is none of the outsider party was involved in 9/11...it was an inside job..but the US democratic system ensures that stupid people come to vote for electing stupid leaders with a lot of fire power!

Its normal for US, now they'll try to use it (same as fake ambassador assassination plot) to increase sanctions on Iran.

Lets remember 9/11 accusations timeline:

1. US claimed Bin Laden is guilty, and they have the proof. Taliban asked for this proof, US declined. Taliban offered Bin Laden for neutral trial, US declined and attacked country instead, hundreds of thousands died and country is a mess, narcotics production is breaking all-time records under NATO.

Important moment - CIA many years later confirmed they have no proof of Bin Laden involvement in 9/11. When US found Bin Laden, they killed him, without trial.

2. US claimed Iraq had Al Qaeda connections. After they started the war, many years later they admitted it was a fake as well, along with non-existing WMD.

3. Now they claim in a court Iran is responsible... a decade later, with zero actual evidence. See the pattern?

And now probably the biggest irony - Al Qaeda was essentially created by US, and when it turned against previous masters, it became the "worst terrorist organization in the World". Guess what - US is again openly extending its friendship and funding to Al Qaeda, using it against Libya, Syria and Iran.

Btw, I never knew the Taliban was involved in the 9/11 attacks. I thought it was Al-Qaeda that was behind the attacks. I'm very disappointed to see these kinds of things happening in America.
