The Algerian revolution is the closest model to ours, the Algerians were fighting an important white colons community who was ruling the indigenous majority.

By the time Algeria celebrates the 61th anniversary of the November Revolution, she recalls, too, the memory of the many foreigners of various origins and strong faith who lent his hand in his fight against the French occupation, some for his case in international political arenas, others by contributing to funding or to its equipment.

Vassil Valtchanov of Bulgarian nationality, now a hundred years old, is one of these. It is one of the founders in 1994 of the Algerian-Bulgarian Friendship Association.

Dubbed the Sea Wolf, the captain of the Bulgarian Navy was in 1960 during a secret mission carried out using his ship "Breda" managed during the armed struggle against the French occupation of Algeria, to deliver strong shipment of arms to the National Liberation Army.

Hakima approached by Kerrar, a journalist with Channel TV Algeria, he declares to know, then, that his mission was more dangerous, "but, he says, I'm really proud to have accomplished."

In his boat, Valtchanov had boarded a German officer to make contact with the leaders of the FLN, on arrival at the port of Tripoli in Libya.

At this time, he says, the French Navy was monitoring the approaches of all ships heading to the coasts of the North African country.

He still managed to deceive the vigilance of the French ships and deliver his precious cargo in the Libyan port. "The Algeria, he said, is my second homeland. I can not find words to express the love I have for him. "

Vassil Valtchanov holds, also to thank the president for having honored on the occasion of its centenary regretting not being able to honor the invitation that was sent to him in Algeria, "only, Explain to he, for health reasons. "

In 2011, Vassil Valtchanov had published a book entitled "Delivery secret weapon" in which he traces the course of his life and this risky operation mounted at the initiative of an officer of the Bulgarian intelligence service, Colonel whose Ventchav it will reveal the name decades after his mission.

I was having a similar discussion with an acquaintance from a global policy think tank, mind you a real think tank not some of the ones you see here :) and he was of the opinion that while in the past many of the Western countries like France, Britain, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Italy, etc. colonized Africa and enslaved the local population, stole the local resources, but now Africa needs to be careful of avoiding a similar fate from the East. It may not be the result of warfare and conquest but rather the result of economic and political domination.

The problem besetting much of Africa is poor and often corrupt governance thereby giving space to others to exploit their respective countries and resources.

More pertinent to the post, congratulations to the Algerian people for this anniversary. It was only achieved at great sacrifice.
