Lithuania is looking to buy more Javelin ATGMs from the United States. Source: Raytheon Missile Systems
Lithuania has requested to buy more Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) from the United States, it was revealed on 18 December.

The Lithuanian Armed Forces were the first export customer for the Javelin, having signed agreements for the missile as far back as December 2001. The latest order is valued at USD55 million, according to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

In total the country has requested to purchase 220 Javelin ATGMs and 74 Javelin Command Launch Units (CLUs), plus technical assistance, programme support, logistics, and 10 extra missiles for 'fly-to-buy' purposes (i.e. lot quality assurance).

Lithuania has been planning to increase the scope of its anti-tank capabilities since 2014. An amendment to the country's budget in July 2014 approved an increase in spending for new guided missiles (both air defence and anti-tank) in direct response to the Ukraine crisis.

The Lithuanian Land Force is thought to have received 74 Javelin missiles and 18 CLUs over the years, so this latest order looks set to triple the amount of Javelin ATGMs that Lithuania has in service. These will be operated by a significantly expanded Lithuanian Armed Forces - which through the 2015 reintroduction of conscription is set to expand by as much as 45% in the coming years. Besides purchasing the Javelin ATGMs, Lithuania is also expected to buy the Rafael Spike ATGM for use from the country's incoming 88 Boxer 8x8 armoured fighting vehicles.

ATGMs have become a priority for many nations worried about Russia, with Estonia also planning to purchase the Javelin. In October 2014 the DSCA announced that Tallinn has requested to purchase 350 Javelins, 120 CLUs, and 102 training rounds in a total package valued at USD55 million. Given that the Estonian request was significantly larger than the Lithuanian one, the fact that they are valued at the same amount is something of a mystery.

And costs are very high. One pieces nearly 250.000$!!

Lets buy Turkish OMTAS:) We would offer 3 times cheaper and high Turkish quality. It doesnt like Chinese and Russian junk.

$250,000 is cheap if it's killing a million dollar tank

but Spike mini/MR is better overall

Russian Army has nearly 15000 tank and ifv.

15000 x 250.000=??
I think %90 of Russian tanks, BTRs, and BMPs cheaper than Javelin:)

Thats why US Army uses A-10 with 30mm cannon has cheap ammo.

USA sell Javelin very expensive. Turkish equvalents OMTAS and CIRIT cost nearly 20.000$. Also Israelis Antitank miissiles, Russian Kornet are also not expensive.

About LAW price maximum 1000$. In Iraq RPG-7 500$.:)
(Edit:i didnt read carefully. I confused unguided LAW,sorry)

Some defence experts tell Armoured Personal Transporting machines are not smart in fights.

They are easy aimed.

Althought In Russia cost of citizen lower than Ak-47
For us (Turks) to die for nation .big honour.
In history we Turks and Russians spent , sucrificed our soldier .
USA and EC cant do that.

US Army very often use Javelin against terorist and persons, they dont risk soldier life.

If Turkish soldiers had been in this fight, it would have been shamed to waste expensive missile.
EDIT2:)
According Wiki, MBT LAW has 1000m range, it is very little.

If MBT LAW had only Predicted Line of Sight (PLOS) guidance, the missile electronics computes the flight path to the predicted position of the target, it would miss the targets.

The missile has no sensors besides the gyroscope and the fuse for the warhead. At no point does the missile "see" the target like a laser spot homing missile or even know where the target is in space like a GPS weapon would. The missile also doesn't even know where itself is; it only knows the path it has flown relative to where it was fired from. The missile does not "home" on the target, it simply flies a pre-determined path and has no way of correcting for changes in the target's speed or direction of movement once fired. Because of this, if the target suddenly stops moving or changes direction after the missile is fired, the missile will miss the target. In the case of a top-attack variant the missile warhead has laser and/or magnetic sensors that will see the target as the missile overflies it but these sensors are only used to trigger the warhead and not to guide the missile in flight.
