The KamAZ-43269 Vystrel (shot) is a Russian Armored Personnel Carrier (APC). Its development began in 1997. The goal was to create a low-cost armored vehicle, that would be simple in design and technology. It was not a replacement for the 8x8 BTR-80 series APCs, but rather a cost-effective vehicle, appropriate for patrol and escort missions. It is based on a KamAZ-4326 general utility truck chassis, which was produced in large numbers, and fitted with an armored body. Low-rate production of the Vystrel commenced in 1999. Currently this armored vehicle is in service with Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. It saw action during the military conflicts in Ukraine and Syria.

This armored vehicle is used for patrol and escort missions. It can take some of the roles of the ageingBRDM-2 armored scout car. Though it lacks off-road mobility of the BRDM-2.

The KamAZ-43269 Vystrel has a welded steel armor hull. It provides all-round protection against 7.62 mm rounds. Front arc can withstand hits from 12.7 mm heavy machine gun rounds. Vehicle has a V-shaped hull for improved protection against mine blasts. However this is not a dedicated Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle in any way. There were quality issues with the first production Vystrels. Armored vehicles delivered to Kazakhstan had cracks in their armor.

The baseline KamAZ Vystrel has no armament. However it can be optionally armed with a roof-mounted, or turret-mounted 7.62 mm, 12.7 mm or 14.5 mm machine guns. Vehicle can be fitted with a complete BTR-80Aturret, armed with a 30 mm automatic cannon. Reportedly there is even a version fitted with Strela-10M short-range air defense missiles.

This armored vehicle provides seating for up to 12 troops, including the driver and vehicle commander. Troops enter and leave the vehicle via side or rear doors. Though side doors are awkward to use. Also there are roof hatches for emergency exit. A number of firing ports are provided for the troops to fire their individual weapons.

This armored personnel carrier is powered by KamAZ-740.11-240 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 240 hp. Other KamAZ engines were also proposed. The KamAZ-43269 Vystrel is fitted with a central tyre inflation system and a self-recovery winch as standard.

Proposed variants of the Vystrel include a command vehicle, armored ambulance, patrol and firefighting vehicles. Some Russian Army vehicles are fitted with drone launching equipment and are used for reconnaissance.

Variants

KamAZ-43269 Dozor is a version developed for the Russian Army.

BPM-97 armored personnel carrier, fitted with a 30 mm turret of the BTR-80A. This armored vehicle was developed specially for the Russian boarder guards as a replacement for the GAZ-66 light utility truck.

Vystrel-M is an upgraded version of the original KamAZ-43269 Vystrel. It was introduced in 2011. This version can be identified by a single windscreen and an air filtration unit, mounted at the hull rear. It is powered by KamAZ-740.31-240 diesel engine, developing 240 hp. However it is also proposed with a Cummins turbocharged diesel engine, developing 300 hp.

SBA-60K2 Bulat armored personnel carrier. Essentially is a 6x6 version of the KamAZ-42369 Vystrel. It was jointly developed by KamAZ and Zaschita corporation as a private venture. Development of this vehicle commenced in 2010 and was completed in 2013. In 2014 a specialized route clearing version of this 6x6 vehicle was adopted with mine detection and disposal equipment was adopted by the Russian Strategic Missile Forces.
