NEW DELHI: Maulana Masood Azhar, chief of Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad has not been arrested nor has he been put under house arrest while three of his junior functionaries were detained in cases not connected with the Pathankot terror attack, officials have said.

Quoting intelligence inputs, government officials said no case has been registered against Azhar in connection with the Pathankot terror attack and there has been no visible action against the leader of the terror group responsible for many attacks in India.

Three junior-level functionaries of the JeM were detained by Pakistan's security agencies but only for possessing some incriminating documents, which have nothing to do with the January 2 attack on the Pathankot air base in which seven security personnel were killed, besides the six perpetrators.

Officials said initial reports of Azhar being detained for the Pathankot incident were completely false and suspected to be a propaganda by some Pakistani agencies.

Pakistan is yet to inform India if it has registered any criminal case against the JeM or any of its activists for the Pathankot attack.

The officials said since Pakistan has announced that several individuals belonging to JeM have been apprehended, it should also disclose under which law it has detained them and started the probe.

India has given to Pakistan information about certain mobile numbers which were used by the handlers of the six terrorists who stormed the sensitive air base in Punjab. There is no information on the identity of the owners of those numbers, they said.

As I said, you would be proved wrong, sorry that you had high hopes from so called pakistani goodwill.

Pakistanis simply cannot take action against their anti India terror proxies, neither can they take action against their anti Afghan terror proxies...The stakes are too high for them. .The terror groups are their biggest strategic assets and their India and Afghan policy rotates around it.

I am not sure why the govt. must detain the head and stir the bee hive within its borders?

Govt. would have done it readily had it believed the allegations were backed by evidences that could stand in any court of law and or military courts

It would be plain naive to believe that the GoP simply refused to act on actionable evidences

I am surprised to know when he freed after hijacking why India not demand his arrest at that time and why Pakistan allow him to roam free, if Indian Govt raise this issue on international level at that time i am sure he will be handed over to India. Masood Azhar only active in early 2001 but detained and put under house arrest after developing issues With Gen. Musharraf and after suicide attack on Musharraf he is under house arrest since then.
If proofs provided by India linked him with the Pathankot attacks Pakistan should handover him to India. he is no good but have same ideologies of TTP can turn guns towards anybody. believe me these type of creatures have no support in masses but only few Madrasa graduate supports them.

On a more serious note, I will wait for the GoI to make an open statement demanding arrest of Azhar (only backed by credible, actionable evidences that can stand in any court of law). Had there been any credible and actionable evidences available GoI would have gone to all extremes (politically) in trying to show it to the world. Since there are none, hence there is this attempted arm twisting using unofficial channels (not sure who's running it). In addition to this I do commend the maturity and professionalism with which the GoI (face of it) has conducted the whole affair after Pathankot
