The Israeli military has test-fired a new long-range ballistic missile reportedly capable of carrying a nuclear, chemical or biological warhead, Friday, July 12, 2013. Israeli media, citing analysts, said the test was very likely related to Israel's Jericho ballistic missile system.

“This morning, Israel conducted a launching test from the Palmachim base of a rocket propulsion system," the Israeli ministry for military affairs said in a brief statement.

"The scheduled test was pre-planned… and was carried out as expected," it added.

Israeli media, citing analysts, said the test was very likely related to Israel's Jericho ballistic missile system.

Aalysts say the most modern version of the system, the Jericho III, has a range of between 5,000 and 11,000 kilometers, and can carry a warhead of up to one ton.

The last test of a Jericho III missile was conducted in November 2011.

In 2008, the Israeli military test-fired another long-range ballistic missile, threatening to strike Iran.

The Israeli regime is widely believed to be the only possessor of nuclear weapons in the Middle East. The regime reportedly maintains between 200 and 400 atomic warheads, but under its policy of so-called nuclear ambiguity, it has never denied nor confirmed its possession of the weapons of mass destruction.

Strange that it took foreign news-makers three days to notice this launch.

Can someone explain why Israel needs a 5,000+ / 10,000+ ballistic missile, when all the countries which are hostile to it are much nearby in the 1000Km radius.

Probably for Samson option.

They may want to take down pakistan and probably Indonesia along with them.

Also long range missile could be used at shorter range and could carry higher payload at shorter range. They are also difficult to be intercepted due to their higher apogee.

I think Pakistan is very much within the 5000+KM radius. rather i did hear something in the 2000Km radius. And Indonesia can't be 10,000+ KM range. The 10,000+KM range gives them a radius of Europe & even US i believe.

Where does Israel test these missiles?

Over Spain and Portugal and into the Atlantic?

Probably because Israel likes to keep these things low profile as much as possible.

It's hardly something to be proud off, as it'll just make Israel's neighbors (not to mention the world) even more nervous and suspicious of Israel. The question "why does Israel need an Long range ballistic missile?" will be raised.

Still, the ever vigilant guardian of Israel will probably put an end to the questions before they become a big issue.

have you heard about samsan option ?... before Israel goes down they'll take all the hostile countries mainly Islamic countries and China

China???? What are you smoking lately?

I very much doubt 5000-11000 km. With such missiles Israel would occupy the third place on launches into space after Russia and the United States.

Israel seek war with Pakistan or Russia with these ranges ?
