    FAISALABAD:
Iran has assured Pakistan that it is sincerely working to provide assistance and support for overcoming the energy crisis and strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
This assurance came from Iranian Consul General Mohammad Hossain Bani Asadi during a meeting with members of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) here on Saturday.
Asadi asked Pakistan to initiate work on infrastructure for import of gas as Iran had already laid the pipeline to the border in a very short time. “Iran is taking keen interest in minimising energy shortage in Pakistan,” he said.
In this regard, a 100-megawatt electricity import project will be completed in one and a half years while another project for supply of 1,000 megawatts from Zahidan to Quetta is also being negotiated.
Asadi said Pakistan, being a big producer of milk and meat, could increase revenues by exporting these commodities to Iran. He underscored the need for working jointly for improving trade with neighbouring countries.
He also announced that the Iranian consulate was organising an exhibition of Iranian products at the Expo Centre Lahore in the third week of April and asked exporters and traders to visit the show.
Earlier, FCCI President Muzammil Sultan said Iran was Pakistan’s important trading partner but still there was a wide scope of enhancing cooperation to boost bilateral trade.
